i play "real" music, and i'm not offended by any of these things. Everyone has a different skill set and/or gift. There are many days i wish i was an electrician and NOT a musician. Steady pay, regular work hours etc.
if people want to pretend, totally let them! Playing music can be and IS so much fun because of the SOUND that it creates, not the effort that went into it. It's an awesome experience and i hope more people get to enjoy it.
i think this is a totally fun and interesting tool. When a musician starts to care about the sound more than anything else, it doesn't matter how you get there, or what you do to get there. A musician completely based on a tool like this will probably be less "flexible" than one schooled, but if he/she is fast and smart enough to keep up, sure. Play the gig, have fun.
think about the harmonica.
Harp player: What key is it in?
guitar player: Cminor
Harp player: then i'll pick up my Cm harp. Thanks!
Guitar player: No prob. When do i get paid?
Anyway, this is too long to read by now. I try to have a positive attitude about things i don't like and see what i can learn from them. Like country music... and ELECTRONIC MUSIC!!! I used to hate it, but i forced myself to study it, and now all i want to do is buy synths and draw in 4/4 kick drum patterns. I will say, my rock music is better for it, as it's made me come to realization of the purpose of music in it's environment. As in, dance club music is designed to make people dance, coldplay is designed for people to sit and listen (and possibly cry out of sheer gayness
