It definitely seems like this was the problem. I'm on a notebook, T7200 core duo.

But I have a dedicated nVidia GeForce Go 7600 card with 256MB RAM, it is not low end, albeit not the ultra-deluxe either. When I revert to VGA, I do see the accel slider, but when I attempt to save I get an error to the effect of "the current driver will not allow writing this to the registry". I searched the registry using the registry key for the driver and attempted to view its properties, but did not have permissions (!). So this is a little weird.

try using the nvidia panel.. and turn any extra features off or set to minimum..
( antialising/filters/buffers etc..)
these are mostly for 3d ..but who knows eh? :D

Yeh, fiddled around with these. Didn't seem to make much difference.

[edit] what happens is if the left hand clip/instrument/plug selector is expanded/contracted, there is a "zippering". Also, when items are clicked and dropped. It seems to happen when there are more tracks than just a couple. My firewire card and the video card use the same IRQ. Device manager does not indicate a conflict, however, and IRQ sharing is not verboten.

MikeMC:

To use the hardware slider you need to re-enable the video card. Disabling it is just a quick check to determine if that is the problem. You've answered that. Turn it back on, and then you should be able to control the hardware accelerator slider. (In other words: There is no slider for hardware you've disabled.) Pardon me if, I misunderstood you.

^heya, no problem-- your info has gotten me farther with this faster, so thanks...

But here is what I'm trying to explain: when I re-enable the video card and go to the troubleshooting tab *the option to "change settings" is unavailable* with a message saying something like "your current driver doesn't allow you to adjust hardware acceleration".

So it seems like the driver is explicitly dis-allowing changing this setting.

I think that card uses the same driver as mine. (NVidia Version 196.21) Are you using the factory (notebook brand) drivers? If you are using the latest NVidia driver then I don't understand why you can't adjust the slider. You might want to hit the NVidia forums to ask that question. You do have a laptop so it may have some different options. It doesn't make sense to not have a slider, since the whole point is NVidia recognizes conflicts with the 3D acceleration and some programs.

I can tell you it is worth the peace of mind to get rid of those annoying pops even if they are occasional. I was just recently recording voice and guitar for a friend and while the recording was perfect the playback had some pops and it was embarassing. Getting it fixed with this latest monitor update was satisfying to say the least!

I have installed their latest recommended drivers from the nVidia site(the notebook cards are different, so it is a different version). I've submitted a question to their customer care about the slider-- from some of the comments on the hVidia forum, it looks like others are having the problem. I agree it doesn't make sense to explicitly cut off access to the adjustment slider, this may be because the nVidia control panel permits the adjustment of a lot of different shading and filtering options both globally and per application.

I bet... the whole fun of Live for me is to be able to drop effects in as I go while audio is going. This glitching simply ruins that experience.

fwiw, here is the workaround I've come up with for playing live with a larger number of tracks. I'll disable the nVidia driver and just zoom the UI. It is blurry but it will work well enough.
