Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
So I like to get midi files of my favorite music and import them into live and choose the instruments that I would like to play the music, the problem is that sometimes I'll get a midi file that has some pitch bend messages. The problem isnt the file itself it is Live. It seems that Live limits the the range of the bend. So when I play the file it sounds incorrect. Like the intro to black hole sun, the lead guitar is bending notes. But because Live's pitch bend editor limits the bend range, it sounds wrong. How do I get around this. How do I keep the correct pitch bend the creator of the midi file gave it.
Re: Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
You need to set the pitch bend limit on the instrument you're controlling with the MIDI clip - the "limit" in the midi editor
itself would be the standard PB range. For a MIDI guitar, the standard range is 2 semitones, I think.

Wait, I'm using Live 8, and I'v never seen that transpose box there or any box to set the limit of pb.sporkles wrote:You need to set the pitch bend limit on the instrument you're controlling with the MIDI clip - the "limit" in the midi editor

Re: Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
It's not the midi clip dictating the range, it's the instrument itself.
Any serious softsynth or sampler will have a pitchbend range value. You just have to hunt for it. It's in every ableton instrument, and it should be on the instrument interface.
I like to keep mine at 12 semitones, or a whole octave.

On Sampler, for instance, you'll find the pitch bend range parameter under the "midi" tab, and on Operator in the "pitch
shell". This is where you set the range - MIDI is just MIDI;the values are universal - it's what you tell the instrument to
do with the MIDI signal that matters.

thanks for the help guys

Re: Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
Can someone point out literally where the pitch bend range is on Operator? Can't seem to find it..sporkles wrote:...and on Operator in the "pitch

Also can't find it for the Analog synth.
Thanks all.
Re: Whats up with Pitch Bend (midi evelope editor)
If you click in the lower right hand area - the Algorithm section, where the Time, Tone and Volume knobs are - then the centre display now gives you pitch bend range options.Ravloo wrote:Can someone point out literally where the pitch bend range is on Operator? Can't seem to find it..
