I was visiting a friend who showed me how he uses Live and I'm trying to figure out if it would work for me. What he does (lots of loops of audio files) is different from what I do (multi-track MIDI sequencing) and we couldn't figure out how it might work.
Here's what I'm thinking:
Track 1 (MIDI) - Rewire to a specific Reason Instrument
Track 2 (MIDI) - Rewire to a different Reason Instrument
Track 3 (MIDI) - Rewire to yet another Reason Instrument
etc.
Then the audio output from Reason feeds into either individual or a common audio track. Is there a way to route the ins and outs to make that happen?
All we were able to do is get Live to send MIDI to the currently selected Reason instrument. I realize I could work on one track, bounce it to audio, rinse and repeat but I think that would just get in my way.
Maybe I'm missing the point of what Live is all about but I like the idea of being able to trigger different parts of songs on the fly, extending or shortening solos and the like. None of that is as easy in Reason or elsewhere.
