recorderd tracks out of sync

Post by jamief » Fri Feb 26, 2010 9:28 pm

So just rebuilt the studio with new furniture plugged in pc and started recording. No settings have changed but now every time i record external audio its out of time. In the audio level meters on the track i am recording on i can see the signal enters live on time no delay but its on playback the delay occurs and i have to warp it to go in time.
Any enlightenment on this would be greatly received

best
#J :)

sounds like your delay compensation was reset.

You mean driver error compensation ?

thanks

no no...thats normal with L8.. .. just ajust the makers after recording to make the position of the recording align with the other tracks

hey thanks 3 phase no it seemed likie something differnt than that. But your input is once again appreciated the delay compensation seemed to have smoothed the pains away.

thanks though :)

i was cinicaly joking... there was a bug and the way to handle it was to live with it..
or just quantize everything to 16th

have no idea if its cured now or still there ,..
but because it was a random thing again that you cant present to ableton in a reproduceable form..i actually doubt it

Hi,

I did not read the whole topic but I have a very strange phenomena.
I made the driver error correction like described, out-to-in and set it to almost sample accurate but if I play back a midi and record the audio from an external gear it will have some latency.
The other thing is that the midi is in sync to the metronome. I let over midi play a kick which I hear in sync with the metronome and if I record it as audio it gets late, but the driver error compensation is set correctly.

Something is wrong... :?

I tried to change the chanel delay values but didn't seem to work. (probably it is not working for recording only for playback)

Well. How is it supposed to set the driver/latency/delay or whatever to get also midi recording synced?

track monitor has to be set to OFF for delay compensation to work.

if you need to monitor (and you will), use the direct monitor on your soundcard.

well it was set off. I set it to off as default because I use a lot of HW and use HW monitoring all the time.

connect an audio out to an audio in

track 1 - an audio track with a short sample in it (I like kick drums)

track 2 - an audio track to record track 1 when it plays

track 3 - an audio track to record the input that's connected to an output on your sound card.

go to arrange view, arm the tracks, hit record, play the sample in track 1 a few times.

zoom in on the waveforms and use the timeline at the bottom of the screen to see how far behind track 3 is from track 2.

oh, and make sure delay compensation is set to 0 ms before you start.

I'll leave it up to you to not create audio feedback. I turn off my monitors when I do this stuff.

delay only happens on recording, not playback.

This is all right and done already. But the audio recording from a MIDI track is still late, and no matter what I tweak it won't change.

yeah, you were clear that you set up the compensation correctly. I was at work, distracted, now I'm at home, freezing tracks on a rainy day. :D

is there a track delay set on the track? if you have that view off you wouldn't see it.

if I get you right...
Live can play your external device's kick drum in time with Live's metronome.

you can record external audio on time, you know this because you lined it up with the in/out feedback test.

you can hear the kick drum in time with the metronome, if you were to record that kick drum the recording would be off?
