WTF are you going on about? Creating digital noise, skips, stutters, pitch shifts, and artifacts by whatever means is about as far from soul as you can get musically.dum wrote:Which is ironic, because you advise those pursuing the glitchy microedit genre to be lazy, and to scavenge through the output of generic buffer plugs.
Seems at odds with what you're saying in this thread on the topic of soul etc

Re: With all this glitchy, wobbly and techy music.......
Well post some links to some glitch that you think has soul. I'm no expert.dum wrote:the shit you listen to, probably

Re: With all this glitchy, wobbly and techy music.......
Um, do we have a working definition of melody yet?
In layman's terms, I would say a melody is something you can hum. If you can't hum it, it's probably not a melody.
Am I guilty of sometimes not writing an actual melody? Yes. As an experiment, try creating a melody by humming or singing it first, then drop that glitchy, wobbly bass tarnce lead underneath. Get that melody stuck in your head. If you find you're humming it a day or two later, it's probably gold.
Now, I'll be listening to Telefon Tel Aviv and Ochre...

Love Pretty Lights but I don't really consider it Glitch. Using it as a technique every now and then, yeah. But heavily driven by it, no.outershpongolia wrote:Pretty Lightsbeats me wrote:Well post some links to some glitch that you think has soul. I'm no expert.dum wrote:the shit you listen to, probably

beats me: are you soft in the head ? The answer to your question has been posted already
have fun trying to come anywhere near the quality of their manic edits with your 'scavenge the renderings of generic buffer effects' approach. Just a quick sample from heir AFX, not bothered spoon feeding you the answer on this one - you almost always puke it back up!

Dear friends, making a bassline or a synth stab at cuepoints is not a melody! The most glitch stuff out there is actually the most melodic within electronic music (Aphex, Squarepusher, Jaga Jazzist, Prefuse 73 ect.).
Take it easy, make music, don't nag.

Are you a robot? All of that had zero soul. You're like a chick who only focuses on one part of an entire conversation that annoys her and then beats that into the floor for the rest of your life.dum wrote:beats me: are you soft in the head ? The answer to your question has been posted already

Yes, you are right. That does have some soul. I stand corrected.

Yeah it's not entirely glitch, just throwin it out there.. definitely tons of that technique throughout the tracks tho, even if it isn't so crazy all the time. He's definitely my favorite producer along with Alex B.beats me wrote:Love Pretty Lights but I don't really consider it Glitch. Using it as a technique every now and then, yeah. I think we've all been going about this the wrong way, maybe when he says soul he is talking about this:beats me wrote:WTF are you going on about?
