I'm going back to Logic for arranging

i doubt they will ever do anything about it.
its been like this for years. im guessing its another one of them problems that would take a whole rewrite to fix.

A whole rewrite? burned into the code? I think this would be quite simple to implement. Can anyone here comment what current code could logically interfere with this feature. And believe me I'm the last one that wants any new feature and 3 old features break

... I'm not sure if get the issue, but if I do understand correctly:
I always select everything and duplicate (cmd+d) and then start deleting what I don't want. It's in general a faster way of working than selecting small parts and then drag them to the right! I understand it's different in Logic. It just depends on your work flow.

Ah! I see what you are saying digid. Yes, it would be nice if Live shift-selected non-contiguous clips in the Arrangement view. This IS what everyone is talking about, right? You can do this midi Clip view, so it is really too bad you can't in Arrangement. Perhaps Live 9.

I don't know why you have the grid markers in the screenshot turned off (especially since by the nature of your post, the relationship between the clips is important), but I would just move each clip individually in the example by counting bars and beat markers. It'd take about 1 minute to 5 minutes depending on how fine you wanted to zoom in and drop your clips. But that's just my workflow.

lazos: I usually work with non-rhytmic music, so I tend to turn off the grid - it's just distracting.

But, I agree, your tip would definitely work better with beats, even though it shouldn't be that hard to begin with. But that's another story, it seems ...

Take what off the list? Clip selection? There is NO clip selection in the Arrangement window, if anyone thinks so it's a misunderstanding. You can only select one clip, or you can select several contiguous clips using time selector. You cannot select multiple, non-contigous clips in the arrangement window. That is why I posted the original post.

Gary is agreeing with you, he's being sarcastic in saying that Ableton should take it off their 'to do' list. he quoted kleine, an Ableton employee saying that it's on their list of features to implement.


nice catch Gary, I wasn't sure what the OP was up to but didn't want to reply until I tried it. very very strange this feature is missing.

digid - nice catch, yeah that sucks. as mentioned before I'd copy the clips to new tracks, delete the stuff you don't want to move then select it all in one chunk of time, move it then put them back into the original tracks, making sure I use a large snap to grid value so I keep them on the beat.
