Ableton preview/cue - Can I insert VST fx here?

Folks,

In my main DAW (Sonar) I can preview/cue samples and route the output of this to its own strip. Then add VST fx but keeping the Master out clean. Can I do this in Ableton? I can't figure out of this is possible. It seems the preview/cue is locked within the Master out strip.

Any help is appreciated.

It's a shitty workaround, but I started using fx send A as my cue instead of the proper cue function, because a)you can put all the fx you want on the cue bus and b) you can adjust the level of each track into the headphone mix. it's not as pretty and it's more useful in the studio than for live situations, but i've gotten used to it.

How exactly do you route the previewed samples to the Aux buss? I don't really see where I can do this.

oh. shit. i guess i didn't read carefully enough. i thought you were talking bout general-purpose cueing. i don't think you can route the preview through a different channel. maybe i'm wrong...

The only way it would be possible would be if you were to re-route it physically. If your cue out is 3/4, then find your 3/4 OUT jacks, and connect them to some kind of Input on your audio interface. Make an audio channel and set the Input to that specific input, and throw some vsts on it. Now when you cue, you will hear your audio affected by whatever effects you wanted. You could even reroute that new audio channel to any other channel or return channel in Live. That is currently only way to do it. end.

If you are on a mac, you can use soundflower http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/ and create an aggregated audio device, containing both your current interface and soundflower.

1 - send your cue to soundflower 1/2
2 - create an audio track with input from soundflower 1/2 (monitor IN)
3 - send the audio from that track to your preferred outputs on your interface
4 - make a pie http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Making-a-Pi ... etail.aspx

edit: the soundflower equivalent for PC would be JackAudio http://jackaudio.org/ but I don´t think you can make aggregated devices in Windows. Some interfaces have software which supports internal re-routing/loop-back.
