8.1.3???
Re: 8.1.3???
desktop I presume?
I fixed a laptop overheating issue with a new battery. after 5 years the battery wouldn't hold a charge and the charging circuit couldn't actually charge it, it just ran constantly, generating a lot of heat. the bug was instant shut downs but Live could recover.

Re: 8.1.3???
@ well it is a laptop (mbp) and the battery is not the fittest anymore, but i start 8.1.3b2 and immediately the temp and fans jump like mad into the sky, once i shut live down everything goes back to normal!
and that is supposed to be a battery issue?, well seems odd to me.
and does anyone know if the kernel panic (grey curtain on OSX) can be caused by overheating?
or must it be something else?
i never had that before.

that's how my issues started. I'd launch a game, the fans would spin up after a bit the laptop would crash. I tried a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out. I tried to take it apart (3 times) to get to the heat sink (can't.) I put a desktop supply's fan next to it to blow cool air on the laptop, no luck. then I just bought a new battery, now all's well, the fans are quiet.SubFunk wrote:@ well it is a laptop (mbp) and the battery is not the fittest anymore, but i start 8.1.3b2 and immediately the temp and fans jump like mad into the sky, once i shut live down everything goes back to normal!

Re: 8.1.3???
Ok, i take that, it's time for a new battery anyhow.
still an odd coincidence that once live 8.1.3b2 runs it happens (the temp / fan jump) and when i shut it down it's Ok. well after all the odd behaviour i encountered with live i should not be surprised, or should i?

maybe, maybe not. I should have mentioned that my HP laptop won't run without a battery in it. maybe try running yours without the battery, then there's nothing to drive the charging circuit crazy.

yep.. I experienced that before with a MBP..SubFunk wrote: and does anyone know if the kernel panic (grey curtain on OSX) can be caused by overheating?

I think it's a sort of build-in protective mechanism that when it gets too hot it shuts itself down..

careful though... thats playing with fire. Your motherboard and/or CPU get too hot too many times and one of them will get fried permanent style. Mac or no Mac "protective mechanism".
If/when that damage occurs, all the coders in the world working on Live won't be able to make it work on your computer.

Why is L8 getting allways funny in stage situations? s there a special algorythm tha uses the drop sensor of the laptop to see if its on a vibrating stage?
Just a idea.
interesting theorie.. but it only happens with L8.. so i am only mental about L8? possible..

Re: 8.1.3???
I've had very few issues on stage with a laptop luckily, but enough in the studio to always give me pause.

Re: 8.1.3???
Well i don't think a kernel panic is a security measure, i just need to figure if it the overheating is related to the battery (and it is a coincidence) or related to the latest beta of live.

WTF????
Looks like 8.1.3 has totally died, and killed off the official release as well.
Is this possible?

Ehh, the guy deleted the library.cfg file, no wonder Live reinstalled the library then. Should've deleted the preferences.cfg file instead, surely?Sibanger wrote:http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 5#p1114235

Yeah. Preferences are made with each version, but there is only one library.slirak wrote:Ehh, the guy deleted the library.cfg file, no wonder Live reinstalled the library then.
