no..you are all stupid fanboys.. his own wikipedia link disprooves him..
"Data does nothing in the absence of an interpreter, so the notion of compatibility does not apply to document files, it only applies to software. In the case of a program that creates document files, a new version of that program ("v2") is said to be backward compatible with the old version of the program ("v1") when it can both read and write documents that work with v1. Everything that v1 could do must also be possible with v2, including saving documents that can be read by v1 (which is something that v1 could do.)"

And forward compatibility is regarding wiki somehing that has absolute nothing to do with the theme complex here..its a special designed data format that automatical ignores parts of future fileformats to keep compatibility to future versions by just ignoring additional features..
Actually something that wouldnt have been a too bad tactic for ableton..

I like wiki.. but it is patchwork in progress.. and there are defently some wrong articles .
you can see that in the article you posted.. initially it reads like that only loading is enough.. later in the text further definitions got added..probably by other users that oposed to the only loading is enough statement..

Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't saying it should be taken as gospel always and forever or anything. But it's (usually) better than nothing if the article's well-formed. In which case the references down at the bottom are usually what you really want for info.3phase wrote:I like wiki.. but it is patchwork in progress.. and there are defently some wrong articles .

I don't know if you're just taking the piss here, but no, you cannot, evidently. I was so sure I read somewhere prior tomr.adl wrote:To get this straight:

this release that they'd been working on sorting out this problem, but looking at the download page now, I can see it
clearly stated that if you save your project in 8.1.3, you won't be able to open it in a prior version.

No, actually i wasn´t trolling or trying to piss somebody off.
And on the download page it clearly says that 8.1 is introducing a new format, not 8.1.3. (see screenshot). So my question was if i can open tracks i made with 8.1.3 with the 8.1 version (not talking about the 8.0.1 version!)
Anyway i just tried and i CANNOT open tracks with 8.1.1 which i saved with 8.1.3.

Re: Is 8.1.3 backwards compatible?
Hi all:
Just to clarify:
Tobias
Just to clarify:
- Live sets saved with Live 8.1.3 will not open in previous versions of Live (Live 8.1.1, Live 8.1, Live 8.0.x etc.).
- Live 8.1.3 will of course open all Live sets saved with previous versions. If not it is a serious bug.
- Live 8.1.3 should also be able to open Live sets saved in yet to be released, future Live 8.1.x bugfix updates such as Live 8.1.4. If not, it it as a bug.
- Live 8.1.3 will most likely not be able to open Live sets saved with any (yet to be developed) major upgrade of Live such as Live 9 since such an upgrade will likely introduce changes which are incompatible with Live 8.

couldnt you update this politic after all the trouble the fileformat changes have caused with an unstabel L8?
ther are basics in a daw as event timing, tempo and placement.. it must be possible top develop a data format that is able to extract theese basic info from future file formats..
that the mix or some plug in settings get lost is not the main concern when you open a future file with your old version as long you still can access the musical content...
this must be possible.. and it will make any future stability issues easy to take if you can swap to an older version at any time...
or at least introduce the possebilty to safe in old fileformats.. many pro software is providing that...
Its actually a sign that you are dealing with pro software when you find such options in the menue

Re: Is 8.1.3 backwards compatible?
If you're not concerned about the mix, or plugin settings, etc. can't you just save MIDI clips out and dump all audio to stems and import that into whatever you're moving to?3phase wrote: that the mix or some plug in settings get lost is not the main concern when you open a future file with your old version as long you still can access the musical content...
