of course you could,
but this thread was about getting Ecler Nuo style control out of a UC-33 (at least that is how i interpreted it). and the Ecler Nuo has a 3-band. not to mention the UC-33 knobs are laid out like a 3 band. And generally folks that are using EQ3 and unhappy with it, would like 3 band operation from another effect besides EQ3.

Thanks a lot Adamjay, i am just about to test your tip and see if it works. I was really pissed with the first time i tried the UC-33 though...
Well, the post was a two question posts. I just wanted to know if the Ecler Nuo4 had midi pitchbending. The other question, unrelated to the first, was about the UC-33.
Thanks

John, I have just sent a mail over to the product manager at Ecler, to see if he can clarify the extent to which the Nuo-4 can have it's clock adjusted.

Can you not set max/min values to controllers on the UC33? You certainly can on the Remote 25. If not maybe you can do it with one of the clever midi utilities that peeps use to re-assign/route midi #s/controllers etc
I am really looking to try and do this, can somebody help out on how to set this up on UC33 or a Evolution 425C??
Thanks![/quote]

My reply from Ecler was a bit confusing but it seems like there is no real dedicated adjustment of the MIDI clock signal, more likely that you would use one of the 4 MIDI controls assigned to tempo in Live.
Not 100% sure on this though - will have to wait until it is released - hopefully Skratchworx should be in line to get a review model fairly soon to launch time.

Thanks Deft, but i reckon that what i meant is slightly different: What i would love is a way to pitch the tempo like on CD Players or Turntables, i.e. to increase / decrease the speed just for a fraction of a second to align beats.
I guess Live is maybe not optimal for DJ right now but as a "3rd deck" can be very useful. I know that you could pitch ride, but its not that easy with Live.
Let me know more if you can Deft.

sure it is
all you need is a midi knob
go into arranger view, expand the Main channel
go to Song Tempo
define your minimum/maximum bpms (lets say for example's sake 133 to 138bpm)
now assign your midi knob to Song tempo and you can ride the pitch from 133 to 138 quite acurately.
I've doing it this way to mix my live set with DJs for the last year. It couldn't be easier really.

Yeah, that's basically what the product manager at Ecler told me to do! He said to forget about tapping or nudging the clock.

us old DJ's have a trick for nudging and tapping.
the trick is don't nudge or tap!.
use the pitch control for EVERYTHING. You want to nudge? turn up the pitch then turn it back down to where it was before.
Believe me, the less you touch the platter, the better the DJ you become and the better you develop your instincts. and this translates pefectly into using Live with turntables.

Thanks Adamjay and Deft, i have heard of that way to mix but i have to say that i used the other, more European style of slowing/accelerating the turntable with my fingers.
I know how to define the tempo that way and as you knowi have a UC-33, but how can i invert the direction of the fader? With slower going up and faaster going downlike on a 1210?
I saw a post but the MIDI app was Windows only and i have a Mac Powerbook.
Any help will be greatly appreaciated.

P.S.I just saw something very interesting...I have a Gigaport AG and when i tried to set each Ableton Live channel to a channel in a hardware mixer like my old Pioneer DJM 600 it didnt work.
Is it true that you can assign each channel separately so that you EQ and use the faders on the hardware mixer and not in Live?
Sorry for the dumbass questions but i am new to Live

Yeah just set each channel to route out of your soundcard channels in it's little drop down menu (instead of routing it to the master channel). I think I have to choose EXT and then 1/2, 3/4 , 5/6 etc. Can't remember exactly without it in front of me.
This may vary slightly card to card. For my Emu I set up how many asio channels I want in it's special soundcard mixer and have to route it out via that.

That's what I was doing for years... and I still do sometimes. I find that mixers (particularly GOOD mixers) are more responsive than MIDI. I can rip faders up and down like they're going out of style and everything's immediate. If I try that with my UC-33, occasionally I will get MIDI signal backlogs or the ReMOTE 25 I will get dropped CC information - just so that the system can keep up.

each his own but,
i prefer nudging to using the pitch control on decks
and when i nudge u wont hear it
