Licence problem with Ableton Live Intro?

Post by JKlosed » Tue Jun 15, 2010 7:18 pm

A few day's ago I purchased Ableton 8 Live Intro, just to get a feel of this software. I am planning -if I like this software- to upgrade to the full version.

Until now Everything I try to do with is (within the limitations of the Intro version) seems to work very well. The sound quality is good using my E-MU 0404 sound card, and setting up the PreSonus Faderport was a piece of cake. I also own Sonar 8 Producer, and The Soft synths + FX from that package seem to work very nicely in Ableton. It is nice to have the best of both worlds. All in all I am very pleased with the results.

However when installing a package from the Content disk I get a strange error about an missing license. It is the package DrumMachinesLD_v8.3.alp. When I try to load the live set LD Blowout-180.als I get the message:

The licence to use certain protected samples is missing.

One of the following products must be authorized:
-Essential Instruments Collection
-Drum Machines

Now - I understand Intro is a rather limited version, and I really don't mind that because I am just playing around deciding if I will take the jump to the bigger version (no - the 30 day's for the full version trial is not long enough). I only think it is a bit strange you get a box containing DVD's with packages on it you can't use.

So - am I doing something wrong and can I somehow authorize these products? And if so - how do I do this?
Or - are there packages on the disk you cannot use (with is a bit strange in my opinion).

Please do not think I am criticizing anything - a am just wondering what is going on...

Hi,

it should of course be possible to use the sample content of the Live Intro DVD in Live Intro.

This indeed seems to be a bug in Live 8.1.3. And it's not only that you aren't able to load the mentioned Live set but I suppose that you also didn't see any presets for the Drum Machine LD in Live's preset browser!?

I'll pass this to our development!

Thanks all for the replies.

As I said - it was no biggie, I only was a bit curious what was going on...

I am not at the machine I installed Ableton on at this moment, but I will take a look as soon as I am at home.

Anyway - I can say at this moment I really like Live. I think it's safe to say I going to upgrade to the full version within a few month's (well - I am not that wealthy unfortunately - but I guess that's the curse a lot of creative -or semi-creative- people have to bare  ).

I am really program/OS agnostic, so I use the right tool at the right moment. I use Windows for gaming and partially music, Linux for music and all other work, and unfortunately can not afford OSX including hardware (reason - see above) otherwise I would love to use that too. As I said - I use Sonar, and now with Live 8 I have another very valuable tool.

Alright - time to play! :D

Hi,

we already addressed this issue and a fix should be available in the next update release.

Hello,

I've run into this exact same issue with Ableton Live Intro 8.2.2, and haven't been able to get it resolved through customer support -- did anyone encounter the same, in post 8.1.4 versions, and find a solution?

The release notes for 8.1.4 says that this issue was fixed, but perhaps there's something lingering.

Thanks,
Jesse
