These should be supplied as part of the product.
Not to be a dick, but... why?

Between Max for Live and the myriad other user-produced ways of implementing the functionality, why should they be doing that in light of all the other stuff they allow users to do?

And just to be clear, I think it would be awesome if they did that, so I'm not saying it's a bad idea. But I don't see it as a shortcoming or oversight on Ableton's part that they don't.

i think that the py files should be supplied because:
1. They have to do an additional operation to create the pyc files from the py source.
2. They know that someone will decompile the pyc eventually.
3. The users already benefit from hacks like nanokontrolmyr- why arrest this process?

Version 8.1.3 includes scripts for the APC20, so we know how Note Mode works, but a firmware update from Akai would be required in order to get it working on the APC40 in the same way. More detail here: http://remotescripts.blogspot.com/

Best,

Hanz

p.s. Just to be clear: we're talking about native out-of-the-box support for Note Mode here. S4racen and others have done some amazing APC40 templates and Bomes/M4L customization, which provide far more advanced functionality for the APC40.
Hey Hanz,
sorry for the stupid question, I guess it's totally simple, can you help me with this?

*****
first of all thank you - the Note Mode Grid is excactly what I was looking for !! :-)
second: looks I am too stupid how to use the "shifted Track Encoder modes" ...
I hold shift and move one of the slider - and then? I midi map something via Abletons "String+M" command? Nope, then the "normal" volume command goes lost too.
How do I use the "shifted" Modes of the sliders and the knobs ???

thanks,

oliver

Hi Oliver,

To use the shifted Slider modes, simply hold the Shift button then press one of the Arm Buttons (same usage as on the APC20). Arm button 1 is Volume; 2 is Pan; 3 is Send A; 4 is Send B; 5 is Send C. Shift + Arm buttons 6, 7 & 8 are User Modes 1, 2 & 3 respectively - these are for manual MIDI mappings (select one of the User Modes first, then map the individual sliders using Ctrl + M , or Apple + M).

The shifted Track Encoder modes are used in a similar way, except that they are selected via the track control buttons. Shift + Pan is default; Shift + Send A is alternate Device mode; Shift + Send B is Eq/Filter mode, and Shift + Send C is User mode (for manual mappings, same as above - first select User mode, then map the individual encoders and/or buttons).

Hope that helps.

Wasn't sure where to ask this question but is there anyway to limit the velocity in note mode to something like 100 instead of 127?

I constantly have to lower the velocities for hits that I don't want full volume which is usually everything unless it's an intense pattern.

Live's own velocity plugin? Or am i missing something? (just skimmed the thread...)

More of a work around than a feature of the scripts, cause that's what I already do..

I want note mode to be at 100 velocity or something like that.. you know how volumes go from -inf up to 0db then up to +6db? Lets say 127 is +6db - I want the velocity to be at 0db only in velocity terms.. errr if that makes any sense.. so like about a 100, so I DON'T HAVE TO use a velocity plug every time I want to mess with the note mode..

Fair question Agent314.

The answer is pretty simple ...
because they charge A LOT OF MONEY for their products and should give their customers every opportunity to get what they paid for and what they were 'marketed' ...

User content creation shows how simple this would be for them to do as far as 'starting' projects or providing 'support'for it. eg. the ableton employees posts are usually really really useful and I cant imagine how amazing this would be if it was better organised!!!

My guess is that its like outsourcing for Ableton. Ok results, less hassles.
Fair enough, but with a little effort from Ableton this would be grand.

I am advocating an investment by Ableton in the long-term success of their products.
I have invested in them so they should too!

If they let business-minds seduce them with short-term profit-driven business models ...
