How to create real melodies
How to create real melodies
So i'm running a demo version of live 8 atm, still very much learning the ropes and figuring out what does what, and I've also been messing on trying to make some simple beats. But just wanted to know whats the best way to get some real melody into my tunes. Because it's a demo im limited in what i can access from its library but even so i'd still appreciate any advice, because i will eventually get round to buying the full version how to make music that has more than a simple backing beat and not much else. Also does having a midi controller make life a lot easier when composing, editing etc.
Thanks
Thanks

Rip off something you dig & change it a bit.
Or a lot, if you're feeling particularly on it.
Repeat until it sounds like you.

"Musical Palette program is a tool for the creation of 'theoretically correct' melodies.
The program is based on composition theory and the theory of harmony. The strong theoretical base makes the melody composing process easier."

please dont use programs. listen to your head, when you hear something, try to translate it on your keyboard. or just tap out to rhythm of the meoldy, then move the notes to the correct place on your piano roll.

Re: How to create real melodies
I think what the OP is talking about is creating melodies that are correct from a music theory point of view, like call + response, and how they should interact with the progression.
@OP: Learning how to play a keyboard goes a long way, that way when you get an idea you can play it without fumbling and forgetting it, and you can freely improvise if you know which notes are in a key. Read up on some basic music theory.

People not doing this would "explain" the wasteland that currently is minimal techno...Dr. Fluffenstein wrote:@OP: Learning how to play a keyboard goes a long way, that way when you get an idea you can play it without fumbling and forgetting it, and you can freely improvise if you know which notes are in a key. Anyway, this is the best advice. My keys skills suck and I aint going to give Rick Wakeman any reason to lose sleep, but I still practice scales wherever I can because it helps enormously. Jam along to tracks you like, as well. Try and work out some of the melodies in those tracks and learn to play them.

Re: How to create real melodies
FWIW, I have a harmony analysis on my Website (for flamenco (Music Theory for Flamenco), but it covers major, melodic/harmonic minor and Phrygian Mode. The Compas Analysis covers basic rhythm.....
