mental Sasha Essential mix.
cheers for postin that - i got about 10 mins off soulseek but no use
i remember sasha from back in the days he used to play shelly's here in sunny stoke - i wasnt into house then i was up the road above a busstation jumpin up and down to altern8 and charly lol
bak then it was old skool hardcore one minute - then piano and bloody sister sledge the next - very eclectic but it worked - ppl were up for anythin
i mostly lost interest in the mid 90s progressive was too soft as i was into ma liberator acid tekno up at havok in manchester - tho i did see sasha a few times and was allways very impressed - i've never heard him play a girly vocal trance thingy when i've heard em - its allways been the more locked in tek trancy stuff... maybe thats before it all came poo? dunnno cant remember
havin sasha on at the void in stoke (where golden comes from and had just ran 10 years) closed the club down - sasha's fee was £15 000 and the club had to be rammed full to recover the costs - and it was only about half full.... i was workin and couldnt skip too go see him - and i wasnt really that bothed.. seems alot of ppl felt the same - this was about 2 years ago and ppl were not as interested as they used to be... golden had been mental hardhouse for a few years - which had alienated the older house crowd totally...the place was half empty
bugged off! was startin to do pretty good - nice to see u.n.k.l.e. - slam - plump djs and others there - it was attactin a more mature crowd - dave clarke was due the next month..
even havin the rock bands on monday nights was startin to work
then the powers that be decided to put sasha on at great expense - and it flooped and closed the whole place down - great move
the void was a shit hole anyway and the growin number of chav's in the population was causin more and more stress on the dancefloor - but at least it was a place to go and hear some decent djs - some of the time..
so - thanks sasha!!
good mix tho - will have to copy it for ma dad - he'll love it

I agree that the intro/outro really are crap and make your ears bleed. Other than that, I really really like this mix, even if it is a change from the normal Sasha style... less progressive than usual.
I had heard of Ableton before listening to this, but hadn't heard any live mixes, needless to say I was impressed with what Sasha was able to achieve.
I'm not sure whether Ableton approached Sasha with a view to help market their products, but I think the fact that such a prominent DJ should use it live gives some great publicity I'm downloading the trial to see how I like it as a direct result.
ps - anyone that hasn't heard it yet, check out my signature
edit: oops, just realised that my playlist is in the wrong order, so it's all bacwards

Ya . . . this isn't exactly the same style Sasha, as from his GU or Northern Exposure stuff . . . but is more along the lines of Involver.
In this mix you will hear guitars (guitars!) and vocals that don't have, like, epic amounts of fx work on them . . . similarly, the percussion is occasionally a slight bit more naturalistic. In general, from what I've heard, earlier stuff he'd play was, if it wasn't synth, it was processed to sound like synth.
I'm not sure if this is something that is made possible by Live, or just reflects a stylistic movement. My guess is more the latter.
If you listen to the percussion you tend to hear, like, one loop going for a very long time, spanning multiple tracks, in a way you'd never hear with a more linear medium like vinyl or cds. That's definately Live.
** edit ** oh yeah and the wavy gravvy . . . that was insane! definately a Live thing to do.

Still not a fan of Shasha's, but I did listen to this mix to see how he used Live. I like how he really extended to Gorillaz Track/Pella. Good song (that and M83).
See. I can be fair and objective!

15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

This mix left me wanting to dance...I never could..it just wasn't there. I have nothing against electro, but, I'm going to hear him at SoundBar chicago tomorrow night. I have access to the booth so I'll be watching what he ACTUALLY does. I think we can do a lot more than he is doing with LIVE. I totally think this laptop stuff is the WAVE, (I've been a Vinyl snob for years), I did my first LIVE set a couple weeks ago and I'm not going back....I hope he'll teach me some tricks.
