Library Woes: Replacing Missing Samples [8.0.1]

Post by drewbixcube » Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:01 am

So, I decided to clean up my library a bit as some of the non-native live packs I own decided to place their samples in weird places for v8. I was hoping it'd be a breeze, given Live's automatic search/replace function, however I'm experiencing a frustrating dilemma. Live is locating the samples just fine, but it's not replacing them automatically. I know in instances where there are more than one candidates found, Live won't auto-replace, but each and every time, Live only finds one candidate and still won't auto-replace.

I've begun the tedious process of manually replacing the "missing" samples, but I'm hoping someone here might be able to enlighten me as to what the problem is/could be.

As per the manual, Live should "accept the candidate and considers the problem solved."

This is not the case. :(

They should learn from Waves and Digidesign how to establish a fast support...

@ Alien

Ableton support is just fine.

All you gotta do is "tell it like it is" including log files and anything specific.

Hope you stop bitching soon.

Peace.

Beta. The answer to the question is beta.
Max4Live, thats the other answer.

You won't get any simpathy round here about slow support and not much for library issues either...
Even less if you get annoyed by it.

Here's my experience http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=111095

Moved any library folders or changed hard drives recently?

From what I can tell when Live installs it doesn't make any connection with your existing library unless everything is exactly the same. Pointing at the Library in preferences is a bit of a farce. I guess it does some kind of initial inventory and thats that???

@rinsemeister: How do you know that I didn't include all necessary information the support needs?????? You should ask me before bitching me, don't you?

I already called them 5 days ago by phone and was told that my request is in progress...

And also this is not the first time that I wait for over 10 days to get a response, so I'll stay with my opinion that the ableton support is not good!

@Rinsemeister: I must be allowed to state in this forum my opinion here in the forum about my experience with the support, even if I don't get your sympathy...

If anyone else who isn't annoyed by my opinions is willing to help here's my request to the support (in german):

mein Setup: Macbook Pro 2,5 GHz 2GB RAM
MacOSX 10.5.7
LIVE 8.0.3

Vielen Dank

Stefan

Yes!gaaaaaawd!
i've been having tis problem for months now, ableton will find all the candidates for the lost samples just fine, and then not replace them! you just chug away, sample by sample, for a full 8 octave patch, that takes forever, it's so bloody frustrating! wtf? there seem to be a lot of threads about this but I cant find a reasonable answer yet

@osyrus

1. The taskbar says "Media files are missing". Click on it.

2. On the right you should now see the list of samples. In front of each missing sample there is a ?-icon. Click on it.

3. Locate the missing sample manually on the left window. Browse to the sample and click on the Hotswap-icon next to it.

4. Click "save" on the bottom of the right window

That ought to fix that sucker. Ableton really needs to make the "replace missing samples" part much easier...
