Re: A few surprises!
It´s clear now to me that ableton will give the M4L runtime at least with L9.
And L9 will be announced just in the end of this promotion in April.
They are getting as more as they can upgrades to Suite giving M4L for free and using M4L to bring new customers buying Suite 8.
Too bad for me that spend my money on Suite 8 AND more $299 on M4L last year.
Hope that at least Ableton THINK in give to Suite + M4L owners that was not get this April promotion an GOOD discount to L9 upgrade, if not give the upgrade for free. Because if not, many owners will STOP buying things just waiting for this promotions in the future...
Let´s see...

I don't think so. This promotion is only a month long. Ableton and Cycling 74 are still two different companies, and both want to make money. I can't see M4L being a part of the Suite unless the Suite will be in the $1000 price range from now on.
This free giveaway does piss me off. I've been a Suite owner since 8 was first released through all the bugs and crashes, and all I supposedly get now is %30 off M4L??? Is that the best they can do????? How about M4L for $99 since there is no M4L runtime???

Re: A few surprises!
Surprise, you can fork over more of your money now for something that will be free in the future.
once again suite owners who have already dished out the money get hoed.
30% off max is a joke, we here in detroit are fucked financially as it is..
its ok in undisclosed period of time i can pay again to upgrade to bug infested program that barely supports xp anymore, 8.2.1. wouldnt even load and support "couldnt figure out why" must have been an error on my end.
after my bitchfest here i really hope 8.2.2. works.
maybe a rename is in order, Traktor "live" and ableton "studio"

Re: A few surprises!
I get that there's loads of stuff you can do with Max, but I really don't care about it. It seems the same as gearlust to me..."Look, buy this new thing, it means you can make this happen, and this, and this, and THIS."
I even get that a few of those things are features that Live should already have (if you're comparing to competitors, that is). But I'm ok with what Live does already. New gadgets and features are always welcome, but they should be micro-transactional in nature - pick and choose the stuff that augments your experience.
A company shouldn't bring out an optional feature and then proceed to build it's future developmental framework on the assumption that everyone's jumped on board, especially when evidently a great many people haven't.
At the end of the day, I don't like the idea that Ableton are pouring time and energy into M4L when Live is the product that most of us bought (I wonder what the actual figures are for Live users vs M4L users?). All the spiel that's coming out from them is making Live out to be half a product, where you have to spend the same amount of money again to get the other half. If I ask for ice cream at the ice cream store, I'd expect the cone or the little tray to be included. I don't expect them to blob the ice cream into my hands and tell me the cone is extra. That's a poor analogy, but hey, I like ice cream
The idea of a built-in M4L runtime is spot on. It means we don't need to get this optional thing whilst still benefitting from the people who do want to concern themselves with the tiny programming details (and that's in no way derogatory, I love that there are people out there who are smart enough and passionate enough to go that deep into sound design). I almost hope that the whole plan from the beginning was to build up a dedicated base of people who build stuff in M4L so that when a runtime is added, the resources are already there. But somehow, it just doesn't ring true.
It's like Live were surprised that all these DJs, musicians and producers didn't want to spend 100s of dollars/pounds/currency on what is essentially a piece of programming software. Sure, there's an overlap between hardcore sound designers and programmers, but most people want to make music instead of setting up elaborate routing and processing devices for the music they might make at some point in the future. I don't plan songs, I make them. I don't need M4L.

Re: A few surprises!
tbh we should freaking get a free live 9 license.
i didn't buy suite to test a beta, i bought it to use a product that, at the least, held up to what it was announced to be.
they aint getting a single cent from me in the future unless they do something really special this time around (and actually stand by their word), because honestly i feel duped. i paid alot of money for this software, and i expected it to work as announced. it didn't. i also expected the features it was announced with to work. they didn't.
but hey, at the least i got amp. it works for anything except for guitars and basses.
woot.
don't get me wrong, i love live and i love ableton but they seem to forget that a customers loyalty only goes sofar.
bad reputation for a business is the worst thing you can encounter, and one that is very hard to overcome.

Same here. I would buy M4L for 99€This free giveaway does piss me off. I've been a Suite owner since 8 was first released through all the bugs and crashes, and all I supposedly get now is %30 off M4L??? Is that the best they can do????? How about M4L for $99 since there is no M4L runtime???

Well technically, if you own the Suite... You own the Suite..rsaulo wrote:And for people like ME that are suite 8 owner too AND spend other $299 on M4L ???kb420 wrote:This free giveaway does piss me off. If Ableton should release like 10 more 3rd party instruments or effects like Collision and Amp over the next 5 years. The Suite upgrade price will probably be even more than what you paid. And you will have gotten those 10 devices for free, provided you upgrade to the next major version.
But you could even skip some major versions and still get 10 devices with the upgrade from Live 8 to Live 11 for example. I already gained 3 devices since I bought the Suite. 4 if you count Granulator
Re: A few surprises!
there are 2 main purposes of discounts: earn new customers and make old ones pissed off.
while this discount succeed in both ways as usual - i still have complaint because this one seems too much out of tune.
i am not only basically betatested the suite 8 form the first nearly unusable version to 8.1 wih was already acceptable (and not for free, i paid for it) but i bought Max 5 too.
now i still have to pay 79 eur for m4l while new customers doesn't even have to buy Max and betatest. and they get m4l for free.
what?
