of crap sounding consumer speakers maybe? :)
I believe that's what they were designed as originally and then Bob Clearmountain started using them to reference consumer spkrs for mixes back in the 80s. They have an upper mid bump and not much low end according to the specs. Anyway, probably good to use them as a reference - comparing them to other speakers - like folks used to do with auratones or car stereos, TV sets, boom boxes, whatever works. 8)

mind you, I have to admit I used JBL Control 5s for years and they really are horrible as "ref" spkrs.....you get used to what you have.

Ok after first hearings, things among NS10 & HR824 arent sooo different... , at least not as i thought it yould be..;)

the Highs are, if not exactly the same, at least very very close.. Mid range sounded better in HR824 and more wide than the NS10.. and of course they give mutch more precicion in the low end...

if you low cut the HR824 in 80Hz it sounds like the NS10's.. hehe funny

cheers!

....so you did'nt sell the ns ten...

Good decision....

....Am i really the only one who can hear that low end humming....?
Or was it only a problem of the very first generation of the mackies?

Whatsoever....i can't stop promoting the next reference speaker out there to make us all happy.....the neumann kh120.....

But congrats for your new monitors....the mackies as midfield and the ns10 as nearfield monitors is, with no doubt, a good choice....

no, sadly i had to sell my NS10..and the a100a amp to get the HR824's..

i did it as an experiment, but i'm satisfied with the result. Both of them are quite good for mixing, yes the Mackies have some bassy sound but you have an option to roll off to 47hz than 37hz (Normal). Or maybe is just the room, but this is not a problem :)

you can clearly hear whats happening down there...

as i said if you add a low cut in 80hz is exactly like the ns10 !!
i see that Leading studio monitors of any brand dont have major differences..

...erh, i worked with both for a long time...
and you're right...apart from this everlasting way too much bottom end of the mackies, there pretty much the same....'cause today, well, i learned,, they're both crap....
there are a lot of major differences out there...

but the reference crap factor of ns 10 is for real and a serious proofed tool...i still got them...and the mackies are long gone again....
