I believe that's what they were designed as originally and then Bob Clearmountain started using them to reference consumer spkrs for mixes back in the 80s. They have an upper mid bump and not much low end according to the specs. Anyway, probably good to use them as a reference - comparing them to other speakers - like folks used to do with auratones or car stereos, TV sets, boom boxes, whatever works.
