Again, what you are talking about requires an unGodly amount of R&D capital to get going. The JazzMutant guys were only able to get the Lemur built because they had money coming in from other endeavors; at least that's what I understood. It was a huge gamble that they took to dive into the touchscreen arena, but since they were part of a handful of devs from around the world who were actually CREATING the technology, they were in a unique position to move forward.

Korg? Alesis? etc?

1. They don't have the capital; nor do the have the in-house capability to dev new hardware/OS/software for touchscreen tech.

2. They would have to partner with someone that has the tech available. No one does, or else we'd already be seeing it in the marketplace. There's new touchscreen tech being developed every day, but new hardware/OS that would be specific to one industry type like music/audio? No fucking way.

On the subject of plugins: On one hand it would be awesome to have some sort of universal plugin standard for music apps. On the other hand; given the complete fuckery that plugins have caused since their creation, maybe it's not such a good idea.

FL for ipad, garageband for ipad etc. are nice, but nothing else than little toys. They have nothing to do with the complexity of the original software running on computers. By the way it is a good start, and nice for "skatches".

No one is saying that the iPad, or any other tablet, is capable of replacing a full fledged DAW. Only you seem to be calling it a toy based on that criteria, lol.

But as a viable part of any musician's toolset, the iPad (and probably the Xoom and others soon enough) is just as relevant and 'pro' as any piece of kit.

I know, right? I'm not convinced that he ISN'T 3phase. If he starts calling us amateurs and talking about his incredible discography that contains hundreds of groundbreaking techno tracks, we'll have the proof.

Remember that Popcorn Popper song by "Hot Butter" a couple of years back? I reproduced it with FL Studio Mobile on my trusty iPad2 this past weekend. The throngs were going wild. This is truly the beginning of something epic. :o

the gorillaz arent professionals whatsoever and they just made a whole album with an ipad.
Pink floyd had to make an album only with kitchen tools (forks, pans, etc.), and it was 1971. Roger Waters sampled body noises (farts, burps, heartbeat etc.) in "music from the body" (1971). The Kraftwerk made music with 1 bit instruments. Einsturzende Neubauten played their music with jackhammers, metal panels, tubes, hair compressors etc. Because the gorillaz made a whole album with ipad, does not mean ipad is "for professionals". Because i have a videocamera does not mean i am a movie director and my videocamera is a professional tool, even if Lars Von Trier made 3 movies with a videocamera. Lucio Fontana's works are cuts in the cloth made with a knife: if i take a knife and cut a piece of cloth does not mean I am Lucio Fontana. The "Gorillaz" are the exception, not the rule. You can imitate the gorillaz, if you like. But you are not the gorillaz (are you?)
wow, now i see why this guy was kicked off the other forums! so defensive!!!

http://www.samplewiz.com

First video: let alone jack black imitator and the crappy "music" (?) made with samplewiz and iphone
Second video: very professional, the only useless thing is that ipad "plin plin" sound
Third video: interesting. But not for the ipad. Because of Jordan Rudess. It could be awesome even if he was playing a mattel toypiano...
