Re: Maschine vs apc40+mpd18
If you need to rhythm tweaking , maybe you always have to unless you are drum machine guru like him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x6fvzBoL2c , why don't just record it directly into live with snap set to step and tweak there straightforward? Maschine looks fancy as gadget but there seems to be no aid in it for whole production process to improve complexed workflow. It just add complexity to your workflow and interfere the simpicity of the process. Less is more. Every artists have touched about it in the honest interview not for hype. Everyone have to distinguish the information between hype and honest talk. Otherwise your studio will be full of unuseful junk in near future.

I don't know man, the maschine is in my lap right now and it's pretty fuckin' dope!
You'll have to define what you mean by complex.

Would you guys still buy it if you had to use Live's sequencer only?

Nothing could be further from the truth. Maschine is all about simple and intuitive hands-on factor and the elegant seamless integration.pencilrocket wrote:Maschine looks fancy as gadget but there seems to be no aid in it for whole production process to improve complexed workflow. Good question. I would say yes, because I was looking for quality pads, 8 knobs, and a lot of buttons. Although you could get an Akai Pad controller much cheaper, I like my controller with LOTS of buttons.

Live's sequencer? Yes, if I could access all the different features in Live from the hardware. And, it was easy to do all this.
The thing about Maschine is, almost everything is accessible from the controller. And getting to different parameters within the controller is pretty straight forward. This means I can get to stuff quickly without going deep into folders and subfolders just to access some parameter.
I'm fan boying so hard right now I'm thinking about getting the Mikro just so I can have a Maschine in a different room in my house. I'm afraid I'm going to drop my flagship Maschine transporting it from my studio to the couch or something.

Yup. Whenever I hear someone say "what's the big deal with Maschine? It's just a midi controller", I wonder if they've actually bothered to check out any videos of it in action and whether they've used any standalone hardware before. I've found that for people who are mostly familiar with the typical mousing around routine of software usually only get what's so special about it after they've actually used it in person.djadonis206 wrote:The thing about Maschine is, almost everything is accessible from the controller. Drummers recored their sound. Pianist does. These are live recording. No futher edit which damages the liveness is there. But on the other hand as you just want to record your beat and never wanna touch the mouse why don't you record the live sound into MTR directly? No mouse edit there. Othewise if you need to tweak midi with mouse , trackball or any human interface until the end of the production for the perfection, I think this is industry standard, why do you need to record midi into each different software and transfering around them during the production? At this point I don't get what the "heyy you no longer have to touch your mooouse yeaa alright?" is. But it comes with unintuitive pad combinations.delicioso wrote:Yup. I would say it's not about "never" touching the mouse, but touching it considerably less in the creative flow process. Thats where Maschine excels past other controllers. You can capture ideas fast with just Maschine, and then move into post production, mouse tweaking etc.
When I am at band practice, I dont want to be doing a bunch of mouse clicks in Live, just to delete a portion of a drum beat I am trying to lay down to someone elses melody or bass line. I dont want to be opening my Live browser, looking for the right plug, or mouse tweaking some eq parameter that is not mapped to some knob. I want to stay focused on the instrument, and move fast with it.
That being said, as soon as DSI's Tempest is released and I have it at home, then I will get to see which pads get more of my attention.
I think NI have missed the mark A LOT with their controllers, but I applaud them with Maschine. When it comes to hardware/software intergration, they did a great job with Maschine.

You don't. And I don't do any transferring of MIDI. I use Maschine in standalone mode by itself for my entire production process. Only when I'm done with my arrangement in Maschine, I then export which gives me separate individual wavs to drag and drop into Logic only for mixing down. Unfortunately for Ableton, Live doesn't even come into the picture anymore.pencilrocket wrote:why do you need to record midi into each different software and transfering around them during the production? Which makes some wonder why you are using the forums for a product you dont use anymore?
Re: Maschine vs apc40+mpd18
Live still gets used from time to time for certain live situations but not anymore for production.skatr2 wrote:Which makes some wonder why you are using the forums for a product you dont use anymore?

I'm curious what Live will be like next. Do they have the where-with-all to develop something like Maschine?delicioso wrote:Live still gets used from time to time for certain live situations but not anymore for production.skatr2 wrote:Which makes some wonder why you are using the forums for a product you dont use anymore?

I thought this too my first couple hours with Maschine. Not that I want Ableton to emulate Maschine, but I hope they are taking notes, and raising the bar.
