I would answer, trying to do what "I" want to do with Live, not what you try to do.

Easy tiger, i'm just asking a question.JuanSOLO wrote:puzzlefactory wrote:What on earth are you doing that requires 200+ track count? Are you using Live for Orchestral tracking or Film post production?

sound design, mostly.puzzlefactory wrote:What on earth are you doing that requires 200+ track count? Are you using Live for Orchestral tracking or Film post production?friend_kami wrote:
try pushing your track content above 200 tracks and see how convenient it is to work with.
now zoom in really really close while you're at it and cry yourself to sleep.

i can easily sit with 5 layers that each have a track count of 20-30 tracks.
i love live to death because there is no other program that is as friendly in terms of sound design as live (racks, anyone?), but they seem to have done some mistake with it. a group track with 30 tracks in it takes up alot of uneccessary space in the arrangement; when i group my track i group it for a reason; i don't need to see the contents of it at that moment.
i can do impact hits that takes roughly 1 second in total and is compromised out of 20-30 tracks and shit tons of racks. when i'm done with this impact, i might group it, and do 6 more, and group those. this will then be the finished impact.
this way i have 100% control of the entire impact, including all the sublayers, and the contents of those layers as well. i never consolidate something until i am absolutely certain that this particular thing works perfectly with what i am doing.
i also frequently find myself rewriting certain pieces of music and automation parts because of the lack of precise automation with live.
when i do my noise projects i can work in 700-800 bpm and use the warping engine to affect the audio, which works great until you want precise automation.
when i do my electronicapostrock stuffs i cry everytime i want to make a proper filtersweep because i hear it stepping.
when i do my electronica/idm stuff i cry everytime i try to edit things at an incredibly high zoomrate because everytime i move a piece of a clip live lags up when i am panning left or right in the arrangement view.
live is great but it's really not meant for any real work i've noticed. it's like how reason was meant to be a sketchpad only (although i guess they fixed that with r6?).
step into any production studio at any time and count the tracks.
100 tracks is by no means uncommon.
i hear my filtersweeps just fine. i also hear how they are stepping when i want them to sweep smoothly. i could get them to sweep smoothly by zooming in ridiculously far and doing a smooth envelope, but the fact that i HAVE to do that in order to get them to sweep smoothly is quite ridiculous.xzusa8ky wrote: ...Hmmm...sound to me like you are complicating things! Why dont you hear your filter sweeps? Why do you work at 800-900 bpm!? 100-200 tracks!? Why do you layer all your sounds!? Is it all nessesary? I think you should overthink the way you work, otherwise you will spend the rest of your life here on the forum, because the concept you are trying to work with will for sure need a "Cluster" to being reallized!...But i wish you all the good things with your music.....

That conflicts with my time travels to NAMM 2012, Ableton was there making an announcement that they were releasing a new app, it records automation to session using 64bit, but it doesn't do ANYTHING ELSE.3dot... wrote:as to the OP..
don't you worry mate...
