Thanks for the feedback guys. The topic needs conversation and input from all sides.

@Slightlydelic Nope. No divine right to be sure. However, this is a monetary matter. If a product fails to grow with the competition, the product fails.
The demand is this: Add the features, or get no more money. It's not like demanding features from a company with a near monopoly like Microsoft or OSX.
This is like demanding power-steering for new Ford vehicles, after all the other car manufacturers have adopted it, with no news from the the Ford
folks on when, if ever, it will be implemented. There are many DAWs. Most all the others support the 64bit plugins that most of the community is now using.
Most DAWs can take advantage of the large amounts of RAM current computers have. Multiple-monitor setups are all too common now.
Ableton is free to stagnate, but regrettably for all involved, they lose the ability to compete.

No doubt. And the Amish craft some amazing furniture with no electricity. However, you are reading this on what? Why can't you be happy limited to what the Amish have? Is that s a bit extreme? Fine. Why can't you be happy with an Atari ST, running Cubase 1.0? From
Wikipedia:
Code: Select all
The ST was also the first home computer with integrated MIDI support. Thanks to its built-in MIDI, it enjoyed success for running music-sequencer software and as a controller of musical instruments among amateurs and professionals alike, being used in concert by bands and performers such as Jean Michel Jarre, Madonna, Tangerine Dream, Fatboy Slim, and 1990s UK dance act 808 State, as well as naming German digital hardcore band Atari Teenage Riot.

Are you not aware that the Bitwig team features several ex-Ableton team members? This is why it looks so much like Live, and why is is sometimes nicknamed "Ableton Plus." As for having no faith
in Ableton? I never said that. However, if they'd promised Live 9 (even a beta) soon, I'd believe them. But as for news of Live 9? ...crickets... What's to put faith in? Faith is a ridiculous
notion anyway. Loyalty is more on topic. And I feel let down.

It will decide who gets my money.
andydes wrote:At the very least, no one will jump ship until bitwig releases commercially. If ableton want to head off the early adopters, they need a beta out at this time. Right now, there is A big board in ableton hq with all the bitwig features known next to all the live 9 features planned and lots of things written in coloured pen.
Yes, Ableton needs a beta out at this time. A beta of Live 9, not this Live 8.3 beta they are doing.
andydes wrote:To be honest, even if live 9 is ready for beta now, the smartest thing they can do is wait til they've tried the opposition's software themselves.
They used to work with these guys and know what to expect. There's no need to wait. And in the current world of expensive software, releasing first has proven to be all that matters.
People get invested. If the grass ends up looking greener on the other side, it will take a while before people are willing to shell out so much money again. The grass has to get pretty
brown where you're at to consider moving at that point. Brown, like being the only DAW stuck at 32bit and confined to 1 monitor.
Did I mention Bitwig will run on Linux? That's a large untapped sector of nerds.
