Made entirely in Live 9, with only a couple of Papen VSTs in reserve. This song recounts the journey of a little seahorse to a land of magic and squiggly bass-lines. Because seahorses are cool.

I like the gamelan section.
Actually I like it all, but that part stands out best. And I like the rise.

Thank you for your kind words.
The story behind the two elements you mention is actually quite interesting: While I was working on the song, I was browsing a few blogs, one of which said that music should include rises. So I included a rise. As for the gamelan, I wrote that section by stringing 5 notes together at fixed intervals, looping them, and then duplicating the line twice over, using different intervals for each new copy.
Like this:
1____2____3____4____5____
1___2___3___4___5___
1__2__3__4__5__
I then created extra textures by using modulated delay lines, filter effects and pans.
You know. Because you asked

How long did you spend on this? I ask because it sounds great, as well as I have a problem rushing my tracks. I like to finish things when I start them and can't stand leaving stuff unfinished because I generally wont return to them. I have a lot of started tracks that sound good but I never go back and finish or add to them. Terrible habit.

Love how that synth evolves- nice job
Why did the seahorse have to die at the end?

Day 1—Start track, have main elements in place.
Day 2—Sequence, add one or two remaining parts.
Day 3-[ ... ]—Fine tweak mix and "master".
If I'm not fully satisfied after days one, two or three, I simply delete all my work. On the other hand, once I'm over the initial hump, things generally get finished.
