T430 is on sale right now

i wouldn't call the T series of the Thinkpad "fat" i would call them solid. i have a T500, it's built like a tank and can take a beating. it's actually designed to. if it gets knocked off a table (or a stage) the chances are good that you won't even loose your work. they put what is essentially the laptop version of a roll cage in them and the hard drives have shock absorbers.
CORE Audio on a Mac is fucking awesome, but the lack of USB ports, the fact that you already are a Windows user, Windows 7 is fucking solid, and the cheaper price point are all worth considering.
any argument that amounts to "Macs are better" or "PCs are better" without anything more than cuz that's what i use as a basis is just bullshit at this point. both have advantages. i can tell you that i also have an iMac and while i do LOVE some of the features and things that Apple provides, i also fucking loathe some of it... case and point... try and move a few songs from your iPhone to your Mac and back again... hope you have some time on your hands. the drag and drop factor of the Windows environment smokes and runs circles around Apple's walled garden philosophy. but this is just my opinion. so it's no better than the rest.
don't forget to say goodbye to some of your software if you switch too because it won't all be coming with you. bootcamp blah argument... yeah, lemme just load up another OS real quick so i can do that one thing... it's workaround that is better than nothing but hardly the same. let's not forget that you'll have to load Windows on it too... and configure it. it's not like it comes pre-installed and ready to go... if you don't already have a Windows license... you'll be shopping for one of those too.
specs and money... not blind opinions as it pertains to making a choice is what is going to make the right choice for you. remember... there will be a learning curve if you switch. things that were once easy will be a nightmare... while some things that were once difficult might become easy.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm still trying to decide and both computers are on sale temporarily, so I'll have to choose quickly.

Why on earth would you need to do that? Match lets you download or stream any track in your library to any of your Macs or idevices from the cloud. Just sayin'
PS cloud based options aren't unique to Apple and they are THE FUTURE. Get used to not having to plug in a cable and drag shit around in folders.
I'm fine with everything else you said there.
Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430
match is a subscription based service and limited by the capacity of your device.
it was more to illustrate the point. the OP uses Windows... so I'm pretty sure he knows how easy it is to select the files you want in one folder and drag them to the next folder/device. then if you change your mind... you can drag them out of there... or... wait for it... *drum motherfukin roll* just highlight them and hit delete.
yes it's true. you can delete shit manually, quickly.
on Sunday i was heading to Oakland with my girl and thought... oh i should put a few more chic friendly songs on my phone real quick (to sync with the blue tooth in my car)...
that shit was ridiculous... it was like installing Cubase for the first time and cracking it open to just record a track "real quick". in the end it loaded 480 songs off my last random/shuffle play list. yeah.
not what i was trying to do, quickly. i figured fuck it, there's bound to be something she likes and pulled the cord.
having said all that... i was utterly blown the fuck away that i had just over a gig of space left on my iPhone and that bitch ass iTunes managed to squeeze that many more songs into the space. i was sure it was gonna error out and fill the damn thing to capacity. all of which illustrates my point from my post above... there's ups and downs
P.S. fuck the cloud.

It’s $25 A YEAR and not limited by the size of your device. In fact most of the point is size limitations. If you can't fit it on the drive then you just stream it.
You wouldn’t need to worry about your “chic friendly” dilemma because your whole library is accessible anywhere.
The other night I was working on one my tracks. Bounced and dragged it to iTunes. Minutes later I was out on my balcony listening to it on headphones from my iPhone without ever plugging in a cable or dragging shit to folders.
Another nice bonus is I’ll be streaming music at work on Pandora on my iPad and buy a few tracks from iTunes here and there. When I get home the tracks I bought are already downloaded to my iMac and Mac Mini without me having to do a damn thing. You don’t need Match to do that though. You just set it up in iTunes to automatically download anything you buy from iTunes from whatever computer or device.
Anyhow this is all beside the point of the OP. People should buy what makes the most sense for their needs.
Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430

Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430
@ beats - i get where you're coming from but why can't i just plug in my phone and say take these tracks and put them here (like in a folder on the desktop for example)... because i wanna? and, why does adding a few songs real quick require making lists and trudging through menus that don't make any fucking sense?
buy, not subscribe to.
agreed.beats me wrote: People should buy what makes the most sense for their needs.

Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430
i have an i5 on my iMac, 4 cores at 3.4 Ghz. on my Lenovo laptop i have 2 cores at 2.53 Ghz each. Live runs on both.
i usually have MIDI drums parted out as 3 or 4 tracks grouped.
there's at least 1 audio track with a bass line. i record several live so i'll tend to have at least 3 or 4 running with some spliced and simply muted.
so we're up to about 7 or 8 tracks.
then i'll have some kind of high range MIDI track with strings or some such running sometimes from a VST. 1-3 tracks.
we're pushing 10 tracks.
then there's vocals. there could be as many 8 or more tracks... but they'll get tossed out and sometimes spliced along the way... so, depending on how many singers/rappers i have rolling we're looking at four tracks each, muted, spliced, or layered by the time mix down is happening - minimum.
so... about 14 - 16 tracks, plus effects... native Live effects or Waves DeEsser, maybe IR-L and maybe AAS String Studio (VST as mentioned earlier). there could also be a few audio tracks with guitar running. typically.
all through a T.C. Electronic Konnekt 6 interface.
either computer handles it.
of course, the iMac is faster... it's also got 20 Gigs of RAM. so, i'd say there's wiggle room in my setup(s).
the Mac lets me plug in MIDI devices while Live is running... even if they weren't plugged in when it was launched.*
*huge perk.
hope this helps.

Much help!!! Thanks.
That's interesting the iMac does that, haha I always get so Agro when I forget to turn on my controllers.
Is that an i5 in your lenovo as well?
Also has anyone had experience with adk laptops?
Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430
It's an Intel Core 2 Duo in the laptop.
Also the (win 7) OS is 32 bit so I'm running 4 GB of RAM in the laptop... and everything works as described.

Re: MacBook Pro 13 vs lenovo thinkpad t430
Well, I was gonna suggest that we not turn this into a Mac v. PC debate. TOO LATE!
My 2 cents. Windows is hacked together garbage that will never work right. I can't stand it when I'm forced to use Windows in certain situations. It just feels so clunky and retarded.
But, most people are used to it because they've been using it forever. Then, they try a Mac and don't like the folder structure or this or that because it's not familiar. They dismiss it w/o realizing that they don't grasp it because they're over-thinking it. On a Mac, shit is straight-forward and works how logic dictates it should work but is easy to over-think because we've all been raised on generic Window's bull-shit over complicating the fuck out of everything.
I know I could build a PC that's twice as powerful and half the price of my MBP (and I did) But I'll gladly pay the extra $$ for what I believe is a far superior product both functionally and aesthetically. Everything about it is a work of art. I've never seen a Window's computer in my life that was a joy to look at or use!
Fuck it. I don't care. Apple fucking rules. Fascists or not, they're products are revolutionary. Windows, not so much.
GET A MAC ~~~ YOU WILL NOT REGRET THE DECISION.
{end fanboy rant}
