Recording clips and loops without latency

Post by MBM74 » Thu Oct 10, 2013 8:44 pm

Hello to everybody, when I press "record" either to record clips or loops with Looper, there is always a few miliseconds of latency. Is it possible to avoid this and doing it instantly?

Thank you very much in advance!

Nothing in the world is instantaneous.
But you could try reducing your audio driver's buffer size.
Also, pardon the obviousness, but maybe you play with some sort of global quantization ?

Thank you for your answer. No, I have the global quantization to "None" (I want to use Looper to set the tempo). And I imagine that always there is some of latency, but now it´s too much for me with buffer at 128. I have to press record a while before, and if it´s not exactly, the the rythm doesn´t work. It´s not the normal latency, it´s a short impass before it starts to record. Sorry for my bad english.

Thank you very much again.

Do you have transport running before hitting rec ?
What is your soundcard ? What is the total latency indicated in live's preferences ?

Hello, thank you very much.

Normally transport is stopped. I usually start with it stopped. My soundcard is RME Fireface 400 and my total latency is 9,77 ms (MacPro 4.1).

So, may I suppose it just happens to me? Nobody else?

10ms should be good. Unless your hyper sensitive.
But try with transport running. I'd suspect it to lag when it's stopped.

Thank you, after your post I was trying with transport stopped and running and it´s the same thing. Doesn´t this happen to you? There is no delay when you press record on looper?

To be clear, how much latency are you talking about ?

I can´t say a specific amount, but it´s enough to complicate making loops with looper. Maybe 1/4 of a second? But if you´re with your "internal" beat, it´s hard to be precise.

1/4 second (250 ms) is not normal; extremely high. It should be 10 ms as your preferences says.
Maybe it is a HDD problem? Try with an external hard disk.

Okay. So this latency only happens in Looper?

When you monitor your guitar through a cued channel, do you also have a latency?

Do you get latency issues if you play an instrument device within Live via keyboard?

What are you using to trigger Looper? Are you using cc or note assignment?

Hello, sorry for the delay, but my computer crashed. Now it´s fixed and there is no latency issues. I can imagine there was a problem with my hardware that now it´s fixed.

Thank you to all of you anyway!!!
