Freeze then flatten won't meet my needs, because what are you going to do if you're using the waveform as a guide for adjusting effects, freeze and flatten a clip at every setting? That would take forever.

good lord, your post just made me wonder if there is such thing as an accurate 'soft' oscilloscope. They have come up with soft versions of about everything else, just wondering.

I just have one question, Why the heck do sine waves have peaks and troughs? Why not peaks n valleys?

just like audio, use Nyquist's theory to set the bandwidth of a scope, hardware scopes have the same limitation. I have a scope next to me that's rated at 500MHz, that tells me it samples the probes at a rate of more than 1GHz.

to make a soft scope, just take the SAME samples that are in wav files, aiff files, etc and plot them out amplitude vs. time. I guess it could be simple to make one in max/msp, planck can best answer that question, I'd be quite interested in that one.

regardless... i've been looking for an affordable (hardware) oscilloscope for a while now, mainly for circuit design... any recommendations muchly appreciated!
One extra hassle/step... Real time ftw.

weird synchronicity - I was actually going to post a wish for an 'oscilloscope mode' fro spectrum last night

be v. cool

Windows & Mac (free): http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=4

I'm not sure wether this is a spectrum analyzer or an oszilloscope or both.

A free DLL for coding this yourself. :P

Install Max for Live and use the Oscilloscope from below:

his first post being a necro bump... I would say:

Welcome to ableton live forum

[remind me my first posts on this forum, same necrobumping while searching through it all]

cheers

that max oscillloscope is nice but it would be great if it had better colours.

And those VSTs all seem to be 32- bitters...
