there's some blurred lines in this statement.Angstrom wrote:Meanwhile Link is a synchronisation method over a local network, and as far as I can tell nobody will be accused of ripping off the Marvin Gaye estate's implementation of asynchronous time code packet handling for multi client networks. Or whatever.
Link sounds cool. i especially like that i already have 3 of the apps it works with on my iPhone

http://youtu.be/mb9nrIHubgw This is super tight.
I hope they put Link on other programs (Traktor, Standalones, etc)

Re: Ableton Link
i gave it a quick try. over wifi with one mac and one pc running win7. it was all over the place.
not sure if the wifi is to blame, or windows, or osx but something is wrong in there.
for the ones that got it to work in sync, what was your setup ?
wired network ? mac ? windows ?

Re: Ableton Link
Tried this briefly today, the 2 computers didn't even find each other... is there some kind of OS or firewall setting that would prevent 2 computers running Link-enabled Live from establishing the connection?

Windows or OS X?Vance wrote:Tried this briefly today, the 2 computers didn't even find each other... is there some kind of OS or firewall setting that would prevent 2 computers running Link-enabled Live from establishing the connection?
In Windows, the firewall is in the control panel.
Re: Ableton Link
I love it, I absolutely love it !
Setup without any hassle, super tight. Even when introducing glitches willingfull on one machine (CPU overload), the overall system recovers.
(Lenovo W520 and Surface Pro, on Win7 and Win8, respectively).

Re: Ableton Link
This is nice but do you setup a wifi network on stage in the future?
I hope it´s a milestone to real time online collaboration!

Re: Ableton Link
i wonder if my bad experience is not linked to the firewall installed on my windows machine (computer from work).
so if you have latencies/jitter issues look at this.

turn it off. you'll know pretty quick.mots wrote:i wonder if my bad experience is not linked to the firewall installed on my windows machine (computer from work).

if it fixes the problem... turn the firewall back on and make an exclusion.
Re: Ableton Link
you know locked down work laptop... just cant turn it off this firewall.H20nly wrote:turn it off. you'll know pretty quick.mots wrote:i wonder if my bad experience is not linked to the firewall installed on my windows machine (computer from work).

i will do an other test when i get another sane computer to test with.

ah yeah. i know the drill. fortunately for me... where i work, i am the administrator.mots wrote:you know locked down work laptop... just cant turn it off this firewall.H20nly wrote:turn it off. you'll know pretty quick.mots wrote:i wonder if my bad experience is not linked to the firewall installed on my windows machine (computer from work).

well, fwiw... i absolutely think that a firewall could interfere with Link. it's what software firewalls are designed to do; block unusual connections to your computer.
Re: Ableton Link
Maybe they add the functionality to use LINK with a router. I think it´s more stable. I never trust wifi that muchH20nly wrote:yes, if you want to use Link on stage.Evengy wrote:This is nice but do you setup a wifi network on stage in the future?
