awesome stuff... what an amazing effort by one person....

almost makes me want to organize a "musician's exodus" to buy, restore, and create a new center of music in old Detroit..... what an opportunity!

sadly, no money for such a bold endeavor....

BTW, one of my favourite electro acoustic pieces is "The Pleasure of Ruins" by Gregory Whitehead.

So what happened to Detroit?
Japan took over the car building?
Or US companies found it was cheaper to produce things out of the US?

I'm no historian. But i think the closing of the GM factory was a major blow to detroit.
I remember seeing a micheal moore documentary about it. "Roger and me".
It's worth checking out.

Ford's HQ is in a brand new building here in Irvine California. :)

GM HQ is still in detroit in that nice hotel right next to hart plaza (where DEMF is held every year)

...it's the factories where everyone worked..

Roger & Me is about Flint, a town 45 miles (all you euro's need to get on our bassakkwards system of measurement so you know haw far a mile is) north of Detroit

what happend ... all the white people moved to the suburbs (includeing my folks)
city peak was 2 million & now it is under 1 million, while the 'burbs have 6 million...so once the people left of course they had to rebuild the factories in mexico
(okay some of the factories move to the burbs but they didn't fare as well)

my pops was in advertiseing so he didn't have to worry to much about closings of things
