Driver Error Comp. Keeps Needing to be Reset - 10.0.2
Hey Everyone,
Whenever I set the driver error compensation, the next time I would launch Live I would have to adjust it again. Has this been an issue?
I'd never have to do this with Live 9...it's beginning to become slightly annoying. Or maybe I might be doing something wrong/causing more lag?
Thanks for the help,
Lazz

OK. It's still unclear what you specifically mean with "Whenever I set the driver error compensation, the next time I would launch Live I would have to adjust it again". Why would you specifically have to again? Do you make a setting and it doesn't stick? Or is it something else that tells you that you need to make a new adjustment? Does it matter which audio interface is in use? Have you tried several?Jazzy Lazz wrote:Driver Error Compensation
I did a quick test with internal audio of my MBP and settings stayed between restarts in Live 10.0.2. But I'm not sure this is your specific issue.

I cant say I've ever seen that number in the error compensation box change on its own!
Mine has always been set to 0, and I just checked and it's still zero. I tried changing it to an arbitrary number closing and opening live. It was fine, it remembered what I set it to.
I put it straight back to zero where it belongs. As a benefit of RME I guess, their hardware succesfully reports latency and I don't have to enter a number manually
I know a lot of people don't understand what that latency offset box is actually for.
it's ONLY if you have problems with your interface. Any high quality audio interface should not require a human to type a number in there. Most modern interfaces will report their correct latency and Live will automatically offset for that reported figure. The manual entry box is a last resort only.

it's only needed if you have an interface which is not reporting its correct latency to Live

Which I have had to resort to at least once with the TR-8.Angstrom wrote:The manual entry box is a last resort only.

I'm sorry for my horrible explanation. What I mean is: once I adjust my error compensation to the right time (let's say 13ms) and close Live, when I relaunch Live, I have to make up for the latency again. Previously in Live 9, once I adjusted my error compensation that was it, I never had to touch it again. In Live 10, I constantly have to readjust the error driver comp.

We actually got that, I think. But is this because the setting is not, say 18 ms, again — and if not what is it? — or is it that your needs have changed to something else, like 25ms in the later session? The latter is what happened to me when I needed to use with two different TR-8s in different sessions. The distinction is important as the causes likely are different. A preference issue vs an underlying technology issue.Jazzy Lazz wrote:Angstrom wrote:I cant say I've ever seen that number in the error compensation box change on its own!

My needs have not changed at all. I''m just trying to get everything in time as much as possible (in regards to recording). We actually got that, I think. I have a Focusrite 2i4 if that makes any difference. I'm just trying to figure out why I have to constantly readjust the driver error. Does my interface constantly keep reporting back the wrong latency (which it reports to ~20.3ms)?

how are you working out what value to adjust the DEC setting to? are you using the recommended method, or simply tweaking it by trial and error?

are you saying that every time you launch Live 10 you are recording a loopback impulse in a blank set to determine the round trip latency???Jazzy Lazz wrote:The recommended methodfishmonkey wrote:how are you working out what value to adjust the DEC setting to? are you using the recommended method, or simply tweaking it by trial and error?I have to repeat this process every time I launch Live.

...what’s the reason you listen through your interface (= direct monitoring)...just listen through ableton and everything will be fine...
macbook pro m1pro, macos monterey, rme multiface via sonnet echo express se I, push 2, faderfox mx12, xone:k2

In any case, this is clearly not right. This setting is not supposed to change by itself.
Are you switching between different sound cards?
