Finder search sorts by "Date Modified" just fine here.
the next thing i would try is forcing a rebuild of the Spotlight database for your drive.
you could also try an alternative search tool like Find Any File (or any of the other alternatives mentioned at the bottom of that web page):
https://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
this would help determine if the issue is with your Finder or Spotlight searches or if it's some strange global issue.

The Findanyfile app works wonderfully and sorts things in the correct chronological order. Thank you for the suggestion.fishmonkey wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 1:42 pmFinder search sorts by "Date Modified" just fine here.

That means that the issue is with Finder. I will try a reset later.
Thank you my friend

I installed a File search app and it works as its supposed to. So the problem lies with my Finder. Will need to address this laterlincolnkid wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 2:10 pmFinder works fine for me for this and other purposes (I listed the exact steps I follow in an earlier reply).
Thank you for the feedback
Re: Any way to reliably list ".als" in chronological order?
Ok so I realized that my Finder has some serious issue I cannot find.
The "sort by last opened" or whatever is time related , is all over the place.
I performed a Rebuild of Spotlights Index but it did not solve the issue.
The app "Find Any File" work correctly and shows things in the logical order one would expect.
Thanks for everyone who chipped in to help. It seems its going to be a complicated issue to tackle for me
Cheers

i would try trashing the Finder preferences next. after that you need to either relaunch the Finder, or log out and back in again (or restart the computer)...
Re: Any way to reliably list ".als" in chronological order?
I did all of this. I tried whatever suggestions I could find online. One of them being removing the Prefs etc ... Made no difference.fishmonkey wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 11:14 pmi would try trashing the Finder preferences next. after that you need to either relaunch the Finder, or log out and back in again (or restart the computer)...
Did Spotlight Re-Indexing , also no difference. I will leave it for now cause it is above my skill level to solve it.
Will have to wait until my "expert" buddy has time. I don't want to go crazy cause of this

Yes, this is how you do it.
YYYY-MM-DD projectname_bpm
ex.
2023-4-11 boop_132
They will all always be in chronological order.
