"hold" the user mode button down to access the velocity settings, don't let go of it
Is that for Push 1 or Push 2?

I just upgraded from a Push 1 to a secondhand Push 2.

It is ok, better than Push 1 for percussive/drums, but I find it a bit insensitive for playing melodic parts, I've only had it for a few days and I am getting used to it I think, but I find I'm getting a fair few missed notes because I'm not pressing hard enough.

It's like it will always trigger if I hit the pad quickly, even softly but quickly, but if I slowly press harder on the pad, it will not sense until the pressure is quite a lot. Maybe it's because I was a guitarist before, but when I'm playing a relaxing melodic part, I tend to push the pads softer, it feels unnatural to me pressing fast/hard when I'm playing something soft, but that's what it feels like I need to do to avoid missed notes.

I had my Push 1 sensitivity set to maximum, just slightly lower than the threshold where I got stuck notes, and I was quite happy with the pads on Push 1 for melodic parts.

Especially I notice insensitivity when setting the clip loop range (in the bottom right quadrant when in drum sequencer layout). That seems to take a massive amount of pressure, about the same amount as it would take to get a full velocity note. I find it very counter-intuitive how much pressure this needs.

I do realize that the firmware is set to avoid stuck notes, but is there a way I can make the pads more sensitive than the normal Setup menu will allow? I would like to set it as sensitive as I can, without getting stuck notes of course. I was surprised that there was no way with the Push 2 to set it high enough so I get stuck notes, so I presume there is still headroom there and the stock firmware is quite conservative.

I wouldn't say it feels like it's faulty, just like that's the design and the firmware is conservative. Although I haven't tested a different Push 2 (I might go to a music store and have a go sometime), I do wonder if this behaviour is normal for a Push 2. The pads aren't as sensitive as I imagined they would be from reading reviews.

The Push 2 is still a definite upgrade from Push 1, but I'm still a little disappointed that the pads are not 100% better, they feel like kind of a sideways step, better for drums but IMO worse for melodic.

I have no idea when it was originally bought, or if it has been registered by the original owner, although I could get in touch with them.

Do you think it's worth getting in touch with Ableton support, or is that just the way it is?

Okay so I have had this issue too where I had to press really hard on the pads in order for them to trigger (except for the bottom left one for some reason). There was no way for me I could use the push for production it being this inconsistent.

I’ve tried everything to troubleshoot the problem the easy way. Look for “how to setup your push 2” on the ableton website and make sure it is not something like a wrong usb cable or port.

I ended up reaching out to Ableton about this issue and after waiting for quite some weeks and sending over dump reports to troubleshoot software issue I got a very disappointing reaction that they were not able to help me. I am always very careful with my stuff and even though I know my warranty had expired I knew it was not my fault (never spilled drinks, smoked near the thing. I always covered it with a deck saver against dust, moist or liquid).

I did end up opening it myself since that was my last resort since it had no value to sell in a broken state.

I bought contact spray (griffon) and used it to clean the contact patches of the pads. And voila, fixed the issue for me. I am still a bit worried though since the internals of the device did not show ANY signs of aging whatsoever so this will have to prove itself working for the long run, but for now I hope this might help some of you that feel left in the dark by Ableton

Hi All,

I just bought a push 2 and have a problem regarding the pad sensitivity. To "activate" a pad I have to press or hit it pretty strong which is, as I believe, not normal (I used push 2 before). Furthermore I measured the weight I have to put on one pad to activate it. The result is 127g.

I have a 2015 mac book pro, the newest version of live and push installed the new firmware when I started live the first time. All settings are as described on the ableton support website and my computer lists push as correctly installed.

Is there anyone who knows this issue and can tell me if I miss something important when setting up push? Or perhaps its a hardware issue?

Thanks and cheers
I had this problem with a used push 2 that I purchased not too long ago. I bought some electrical contact cleaner, took apart my push 2 and cleaned the metal contact plate and the transparent contact sheet. It was pretty dirty. Work great now. There are YouTube videos showing you how to do this.

I thought I would put my 2 cents on this.

I had the same problem. You can exchange your push for a fee to Ableton. I was very happy with the transaction. The push they sent is still perfect.

The cause of this problem is probably setting something on your push. Never ever lay anything on your push.

Hope this helps.

I am having an issue with the step sequencer parts of my Push 2. If I use Melodic: 64 Notes, Push 2 responds as I would expect it to. If I use Melodic: Sequencer + 32 Notes, the notes part of the Push 2 works fine, but the step sequencer part of the Push 2 require a really hard press to get a step registered. Making it almost unusable.

I have also noticed that when I use a drum rack I quite often get a much lower volume and I quite often have to resort to the Accent button to get aroud this.

I have played around with the user settings, tried Live 10&11, different USB leads, different computers, but nothing made a difference.

I have just logged it with Ableton Support.

I'm almost up to two weeks now.

So disappointing as this is the 1st ticket I've logged with them and I've been a loyal customer since Live 6!
