The hardware itself hasn’t lived up to the expectations. I’ve encountered numerous issues with stability and performance. It crashes frequently, and the standalone mode, which was a major selling point for me, feels half-baked and unreliable. The integration with Ableton Live, while good on paper, often feels clunky and inconsistent in practice.

However, what has truly exacerbated my frustration is the level of customer support. Whenever I’ve reached out to Ableton support for help with these issues, the response time has been excruciatingly slow. It often takes days to receive a reply, and when I do, the responses are generic and lack the depth needed to resolve my problems. I expected more from a company of Ableton’s stature and reputation.

This experience has left me questioning my decision to invest in the Push 3 standalone. It’s disheartening to feel like my concerns aren’t being addressed in a timely or effective manner, and it’s impacting my workflow and creativity.

I’m curious to hear if others are facing similar issues with the Push 3 standalone and how you’ve dealt with them. Also, any tips on how to expedite support responses would be greatly appreciated.

It's an interesting discussion.

I've found the lack of support disappointing, too. There's this sense that a lot of the user base knows more about the intricacies of the device that Ableton do, and I think the documentation is also a bit lacking.

I've had crashes also, and the device sometimes feels laggy. There are odd bugs and glitches that happen too, which break my creativity.

What concerns me most is how some basic features are just missing. Reordering tracks, renaming clips, automating the mixing section...

At the same time, I had fairly low expectations going in, having read the initial reviews and response.

I think it's been released before the software was in a good state, and Ableton are slowly playing catch-up. So my overall view is that we're basically beta testers for a device that has a lot of potential but is unfinished.

I think the hardware itself is solid enough, and the concept is good. But I think it's gonna be a year or so before this thing feels properly ready for use, and I hope Ableton know that they've fumbled this one a bit.

renaming clips
Shift + a clip to rename it

You can do it, but you need to make sure the track you want to automate is armed (and the Automate button is on, indeed)

Hi, about automations, there is no view window right? you can do automations but they cannot be seen as we do in live or I'm missing something?

thanks!

is there a way to select clips to play without playing them? e.g. I could select three or four clips in a scene, then hit play and just have those play?

I just use it in controller mode as it is far superior with a 13inch screen exposing everything you wish you could use in standalone but can't and with no flat battery in sight!

In standalone it just screams at me all its shortcomings and unfulfilled potential, that said I have had some deep journeys into the vibe when in the mood using standalone, so it has great potential, just not enough to motivate me much to use it a lot at present.

The weirdest thing is when P3 Standalone just crashes when sitting there idle. It happens on a lot of my projects. I load it up, then sometimes after 2 minutes, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 10 minutes it just crashes. There is absolutely no interaction at all. I haven't touched it once since loading the project and it is not playing any audio in a loop or anything at all. And then it just crashes after some random amount of time.

Then you can go on a wild goose chase with a support that only sends automated answers or spend an afternoon trying to eliminate every single effect and instrument one by one and wait 10 minutes for a crash every time. This is so frustrating. I bought this thing to use it on stage and now I am wondering how this is ever going to happen.

I have to say that after the 12.1 beta drop, it has given me a renewed faith in the standalone version.

I can see a bit more clearly, the vision i personally had, starting to come to fruition.

Lets hope this is a trend that continues to surprise and satisfy as much as it could. 🤞
