Ableton DJs, please pack your bags and go home

Post by sonorous3 » Wed Oct 19, 2005 11:40 pm

OK so I dont mean all obviously. But this has been bothering me most lately is the wave of the Ableton DJ who thinks once he/she has got beatmatching/warping down they are a DJ to be of the future.

Guys, beatmatching is not even half of what DJing is about...congrats if you find out how to warp a track after your 2 month learning curve. However, DJing is about your tracks selection, the order you put it in, the flow, the moods you create with it- one that makes makes musical sense...and for God's sake please do it all harmonically!

just a rant.

p.s. dont bother playing around pushing buttons and truning knobs on your controller when your not actually doing anything...alot of us do know the tracks and when you do that stuff you only make yourself look like a fool

Dj's look like fools anyways. doesnt really matter what they're standing behind.

Anyone who thinks they can just learn some simple techniques, and then get away with rocking other peoples music, is spent.

The definition of a real artist is one who knows HOW to play turntables, but doesnt.

argue with THAT!

(btw, that was a joke about saxophones, until the turntable became the sax of the 21st century)

I have been into Live since 3 rolled out and I still don't know how to warp tracks. :?
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

prob get a few serious djs comin back and sayin they can rock the dex which is fair enough but MOST people i know are fakes

trust me, Ive done a lot. Craze is a great turntablist...Ive seen many good performers...actually I play turntables, but not very often.

I found beat matching to be quite simple, though Im a drummer, and I learned on Progressive House (Not to hard)

But in general, I have little interest in seeing Dj's...

right...but spinning two records over and over and mixing back and forth is boring :O ... being able to put in your loops at any given time, re edit on the fly, make loops on the fly, mix tracks that are impossible to do with turntables is what ableton offers...the future it is not..because present it be
