when us mac guys get intelbooks it'll be a non issue??????
dude the computers we are using are very capable but ableton seems to not care that their program runs sluggish at best. so the fix is to buy a new computer? fu** that we have good equipment and we bought "good" software that should work top notch all the time. I don't know about you but I don't have 2 grand laying around to buy a new laptop just so i can get ableton to run faster when it should already be working like a horse. I've only had this g4 for like 6months now I'm not buying a new computer for several years at least.

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
I agree on all remarks you say.Are we to think live is just so much better than other softwares we must put up with heavy drainage on our systems more than any others. I dont think so. Or are we to reason that ableton programming is not up to the standard of logic sonars sx pro tools saw and others which all use less cpu. I dont quite think so. I think it is due only to no optimisation which the programmers must know how to do or they wouldnt program the softwares anyway. So meaning ableton have made the decision not to optimise because of the politics. I hope that is the situation because if the dont know how to optimise then we all are doomed to a software with heavy cpu drainage. Our only hope for the cause will be to wait for much more powerful cpus and run the current versions.psi wrote:"no doubt ??????? "
thats what this is all about.. why should we have to rely on conjecture and guesswork and ill informed assumptions ?
Ableton should produce a mission statement to all their users and state categorically what they will and will not be doing now and in the future ( with respect to support of platforms operating systems and processors ).
We are investing in Ableton and we deserve to know whether our setups will be supported ( or not ).
All you say is weird. If i make music with 2 blips i can use a 386 running 8mb ram. So you can "get stuff" done. I know your not running 30 audio tracks 6 virtual synth and tons of eq and compresor 3 space revrb with latency on which i can do easi in logic on a dual g5.noisetonepause wrote:Robert Henke has a G5 himself, as far as I recall. Your setup is supported, and some people are (successfully) making music with it. Don't see what the problem is. I've only recently upgraded from a G3 iBook to a G4 iBook and well, I can get stuff done. Sergeant Pepper, 4-track, yadayada.
Some people here do need the software MUCH MUCH SOOOO MUCH better optimised we really need it because our music demands more than the Live gives. The beatles argument means nothing. Music and engineering technique is much different in a pc box than at abbey road. large multi track mixing wasnt invented + mixing on a pc or mac wasnt in the dream state even. You can restrain your creativity all you wish i wont.
And those comments like yours which are many dont help anyone. Live doesnt do anything another software wont. Dont give me granular timestretching demands heavy cpu. even with no warp on live has heavy cpu problem there is little difference with on or off. It is easy to see optimisation is not there. Plug in a ableton reverb and then plug in the apple one as you note cpu

I would like to use this analogy...if I was going to vote for a political party , I wouldn't just vote without knowing what their manifesto was and what their future direction was going to be . We have "voted" for Ableton but we don't know what their manifesto is or what their plans are..surely we have a right to know ?
Why does everything have to be so secretive ? Is it because they are running scared in case they lose some of their customer base ? I switched to Ableton Live from cubase because I like the way live operates but if emagic cakewak and steinberg are optimising their product for the latest processors and operating platforms - where are Ableton in all of this ?
