Dude. My dual 2g will be slamming. In fact, I have no idea what will perform more hardcore, the dual core macintel or the quad. There is so many wonderful surprises ahead of us!

I am so excited!

Can you imagine what a quad intel would perform like? 8O

There is no emoticon to convey me gasping for little breathes of air...

 But this one looks like I just hurled!

i cant believe we are happy about having to pay for an upgrade in the form of live 6, when the only major upgrade is dual support. something that would benefit a small minority of users. fuckin joke

that's the only announced part of Live 6, it states clearly there will be other features.
Do you think they are going to announce the entire feature list in january? Nah

knowing the way Live 5 went they probably won't write half the features till June !

*ducks*

Better yet I wrote a song slagging on Apple, DJ's and Ableton!

Seriously, I'm happy. My only complaint is that I was planning on waiting a year and getting whatever monster laptop Apple release as second generation Intel. This way Native Instruments are done porting, and Reactor is ready!
So yeah it's pretty cool, but I hope I don't break down, next years model will likely be 64 bit which translates to a larger system bus, among other advantages.

this is cool news, keep up the good work ableton. My only gripe is that the multithreaded support should have come a long time ago.

y'know, if you are not taking specific advantage of the mac/intel aspect of 5.2, it *is* kind of a drag to have to pay for bugfixes.

Does anyone know if intel macs going to be way cheaper, like to the point where it would one would be a viable 'second music lappie' option?

Well, as I understand it, 5.2 will only cost more for the Macintel version. For the rest of us, it's a free upgrade. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My issue is that with 6.0, we're doing yearly updates. Although that's nice from a features standpoint, it's an expensive subscription. I just remember spending $250 for the last upgrade and it felt like just a few months ago to me...

I know it was worth it...just saying that now I have to think about spending more in the not too distant future...hard to keep up...

Dual Core Optimization for Mactel only?

Post by ar10003 » Fri Jan 20, 2006 6:07 pm

Or Dual Core PowerPC aswell. Just got a G5 2.3Gh dual-core and the wording of the live 6 press release hints that the dual processor optimization is for Mactel's only, which would be a crying shame... well for me at least. Can anyone confirm either way?

Getting Live to run on both processors on my machine would be AMAZING.

Yes, they said it in the forum, but what I don't understand is why they didi not post it along with the formal announcement. It is almost as though they are are ashamed of this extra bit of hard work. :?: :(

Right on, I would agree when Ableton starts thinking 64 bit i will more then want to consider another upgrade to Live 6. As of this moment Ableton is running out of serious ideas for improvements. 64 bit seems like the last frontier for Ableton.
Vote for Pedro.

While I understand your request for 64 bit, I have two issues with this post. First and foremost, as soon as you start thinking like there's nothing left to improve or that there are any "final frontiers" at all, you get too comfortable and you cease to innovate. In fact, if we thought like that 5 years ago, there would be no Live at all.

Second, I have yet to see real benefits of 64-bit. I know it's gonna happen, but I think it'll take a while. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree. Just do it nicely :)
