Well guys, this has been just too much fun for one night. I'll signing off this thread now.

Just for the record:

1. Firefox is way cooler than IE. (Tabs! Hello!)

2. Macs are really cool but way overpriced. (I don't give a shit what's better, I know what's cheaper. Flame me all you want.)

3. iPods need to be capable of a user changing the battery. (Geez, Jobs, what's your deal?!)

4. DOS is almost as cool as Pong.

np mate :-)

The religion obviously isn't pointed at people that just use an OS and like
it, but more those that come out over and over again bashing how stupid
everyone else is for not being like them.

Really I don't care that much, just kinda getting sick of constantly hearing
mac ppl and firefox ppl repeating a bunch of garbage from more high up
cult members who have managed to write a bunch of articles based on
total bullshit.

Yeah believe me I hear myself sounding like them and don't like it.... Just
like to bring some stuff in from actual experience rather then all this
repeating articles of msisshit.com or whatever place these ppl read.

I had a guy posting me IE securty hole articles from 2002 the other day
trying to prove Firefox was vastly superior. Then of course u gotta add "M$"
in a sentence somewhere, it's all so stupid.

Everyone likes to bash MS, and even those that don't mind it will join in to
be part of the crowd "I don't like MS either, but I.....". It's like people
joining in on "oh yeah I think Saddam is insane, don't get me wrong" when
really they don't think that at all.

Just wish ppl wouldn't get so caught up on spreading catch-phrase
propaganda bout stuff they don't even understand. Repeating something
an idiot wrote even if they did write it in an eloquent way doesn't make
anyone better informed.

MS got me on the internet with a years free MSN when 95 was released...
Totally free internet back when no one even used it. People can say they
are shit all they like, but boy would the net be shit if they hadn't been
around.

I hate their coding languages, hate their servers, hate their database
servers, hate their DNS server, hate their networking support. However
there are plenty of good things bout the OS and the things the company
has done for the marketplace as a whole. Saying it's crap just because it's
commercial or because it's flexible and not designed to be perfectly
customised out-of-the-box is just silly.

Right on Ben, its all good. I did kind of get the feeling you were sort of fed up too and "playing the other side" so to speak to fuck with the fan boys.

Like I said, its just been a long day and I was kind of blowing off virtual steam. That long ass post gave me something else to occupy my mind with for a little bit.

When PC's work, great! When they don't work it makes you wish you could go into "Hulk smash shit mode!". But then you have to remember that you did spend over a $1000 on a POS that can be fixed, but will it be fixed????

I switched teams, so shoot me!

I still use my, "Mom and Pop Shop" built desktop PC to record external audio and surf the net. Its a 1ghz PIII with 512mg's of ram. The C drive acts funny and it does not allow me to use my old programs anymore, which are Acid Pro 3 and Reaktor 4. So I upgraded from Win 98SE to XP home and installed it on the D drive and downloaded Audacity.

Yea, my Powerbook is not as powerfull as my Dell, but atleast it actually works!

ben oh bengy

you keep talking about people saying shit they dont know or understand. i think its you that doesn't understand.

MS got real lucky. Bill gates was there at the right time. he's been wrong about so much of where technology has been headed. everything they have done has either been a rip or a direct copy of someone else. I'll say he's a good business man.

dont get me wrong, hey bill is doing good for the world but dont say "imagine where we'd be without MS" please bro, come on.

microsoft went to court for being a monopoly, understand? dont you think thats a direct contradiction to your "i love pc because i can customize it and it offers me options" hmm?

microsoft gets a bad rap sometimes because they have such a hold on the industry

if the government doesn't keep an eye on them they can basically control fucking everything and not because they are the best! its because they won the OS battle in the 80's which allowed them a stranglehold

however empires do fall.

p.s xbox is my fav gaming rig. the 360 rules.

In the laptop music performance scene it's somewhere around 80% mac. I don't get it, I don't get ipods either though. I like how in the laptop battle scene though you see a few more pcs because those guys are ghetto. This whole design first is crazy talk to me, spending more money on the same specs... Steve jobs has super powers that far exceed that of gates. I have friends who's as as broke as I am, who bought a mac. My pc is way more stable then it is (and it's a compaq!!!), he's really buggered it somehow it crashes all the time and he just corrupted his hardrive and lost everything, and replacing it isn't as easy as you think (for pc users). I don't think it's the macs fault, I just don't buy canned mac propaganda anymore cause he used to spout it too. There are more pc users, therefore more bad pc users. To me my computer is 3 years old and almost half the price and ableton performs equally well, and there are just tons more free vsts because developers use pcs and synthedit is the shit. My brother goes and spends 150 dollars (CAD) on a 512 meg shuffle.... My 99 dollar iriver can display pictures record line in has a mic and has a timer for radio recording. This whole mac ipod thing is just one of the worlds mysteries to me. No answers here though just flame.

It makes you feel special, thus you talk about how special you feel all day
on BBS's.
Total stereotyping, generalizing bullshit. I have three macs sitting in this room with me, not a p.c. in site. I choose mac because it is what I have come to prefer. I worked on windows 5 days a week, 25 to 50 hours a week for the last year and a half at the day job I just left and I hated it. I am extremely happy that job is over.

So I am not the "brainwashed convert" as was insinuated in your blanket statement above. My preferences and choices have been developed by my own experience, I do not think my computer is "better", I do not feel special, and I could give two shits what any of the rest of you are using. All that matters is if it works for you.

I have a new 2 ghz dual core G5 with 2 1/2 gigs of ram, and a 23 inch hd apple display. And you know what, its fast, the display kicks ass and all told its a really nice fucking computer that was worth every single penny I spent on it. It handles everything I can throw at it and it earns me a decent amount of money. And it just so happens to look good. And I have a 2 year old powerbook that is also a really nice machine. Its still just a solid as it was the day I bought it and serves me well for gigs, client meetings, and whatever else I need a mobile machine for. And I have a G3 iMac that is going on 5 years old, definitely slow as shit but still in perfect working condition. It is perfect for my wife, who uses it to surf the net, email, and write papers on.

Oh, and yes I have an ipod too. It's great for listening to music or to use as an external hd for transporting media back and forth to school. Yes, the battery thing is a pain in the ass, but at over 3 years old it has seen extensive use, been dropped atleast twice, drenched in the rain, is running the original battery and it still has a four hour battery life. When the battery goes I will pay the $100.00 or whatever it is to put another battery in, or I will get a new one.

So, all of this apple shit I have bought over the last five years, I have had to send one thing out for repair (my powerbook when I first bought it had a bad logic board and I had it back in less than a week) and I have never had to call tech support. I still have all of it, and not only is it all in good working condition but it all is put to productive use every day.

I am not bragging and I do not feel "special", I am just comfortable that when I by apple I am buying good quality shit. And I am more comfortable working in the mac os, I simply can not stand windows.

And there is really no need to try and justify why you like windows, because I simply do not care. I have my own preferences based on my experience, I am happy, and I am sticking with what works for me. If you are happy with what you use then I am happy for you and respect your preferences.

Simply put, this is just ill-informed bullshit. Do your own research.

crash now" sound is beyond counting. While on my own PC machines I've

recover without a reboot.
Your just full of them dude. What exactly is the "I'm gonna crash now sound"? I'd like to know because I have never heard it. I don't know, maybe I'm young and you are talking about macs from ten years ago. Maybe thats because my macs don't crash? Well, I did have a problem with a sound-card driver making my powerbook crash the winter of 2003. Sometimes an app crashes, but I don't have to re-boot as a result. Really, I think it is safe to say that the only problems I have had with my machines have been with third party software, sound-card and printer drivers mainly. I earn a living using my computers, so stability is a major issue, but fortunately in my five years of using macs I have not had these problems you write about. But I will tell you this, the performance of photoshop, illustrator and indesign on the XP box at the job I just left was absolutely dismal and completely unacceptable. But whatever.

And really man, the shit you wrote here pretty much puts you on the same level as the mac fan-boys you seem to despise so much. Your just different sides of the same coin. Really, don't get mad, put your ego to the side, seriously look at the shit you wrote and think about it. Exact same fucking thing dude.

Don't take any of this personal yellow, its been a long day for me. Maybe in the future try not to make such sweeping generalizations. Not all mac users are dicks, some of us just prefer macs, simple as that. Shit man, one of my good friends here form the board, suburbanbather uses a dell.

Oh thats right, it stopped working and he bought a powerbook........

:P

8) I've been using a dell for years and I've never had any problems with it.

macs are too expensive.

Having said that if I could afford one I have one.
Primarily for Logic though.

I've had both platforms and enjoyed many hours of trouble-free work on both.

Currently, I'm using a PC. I built it after checking the web on what worked well for lots of people doing what I do. I bought high quality components and the machine works great.

I had a Mac and loved it. cool machine. It finally was too outdated and I ended up selling it. It would run Reason, but barely..... LOL it was an 8600 PPC. Nice box. I recall the shock my wife had when I got it..... you paid $5k for what???? LOL Yeah, no monitor either.

The mac paid for itself in the studio, the pc has paid for itself many times over as well.

Use what you like. But if you're going to use PC don't get the cheapest, crappiest PC you can find and expect world-class performance. I find that a lot of my Mac head friends had really crappy PC's..... I can think of 3 friends that did that.

It's all good. Mac, or PC you decide. It's all about Ableton for me now.

Regards,

Kenfen

If that happens. Mac users will be burning Apple stores.

I have the answer

Post by Alex Baldwin » Fri Feb 17, 2006 2:25 pm

Guys, the answer is so simple!!
More pro musicians use Macs because
they look cooler.
If Macs were running XP we would still buy them
because of the sex appeal.

that article is off point.

my ipod came with a firewire cable and a usb cable, they didn't drop firewire, they added a dock interface to be able to support usb, firewire, wall and car charges all from the same slim slot on the buttom of the ipod.

people defiantely still switch, we see it all the time on music forums like this.

in fact, another of his points, my ipod got me to switch.

i loved it so much, it reconnected me to loving to listen to music. it made me long for the ibook, which reconnected me with loving to work on music via a computer. i seriously got an ibook like 3 weeks after i got my ipod. i haven't turned my home PC on one time since then and that was 16 or so months ago.

the guy who i do live performaces with had 2 dells crash mid set on him (3 times on one and 1 on the other) in the space of around 8 months. the last time it crashed the heckling included (hes got a virus etc etc) - I use an apple, so he had used it and seen mine work - monday moring after the last crash he bought a powerbook. that as 14 months ago - not one incident om stage yet!

his dell also used to kill the UC33 he used.
only way round was for me to take over and him to reboot. my apple did that a few times... simply pull ou the the usb and plug it back in again and reset it in preferences...

basically what im saying is i want somthing i can rely on 100% ina live environment. no wishing, no hoping... i have to know its gonna work !

Not true anymore. A similarly configured MacBook Pro and Dell Inspiron cost pretty much the same amount of money. And then when you add all the extras that you get with a MacBook Pro (iLife, iSight, remote, aliminum casing, 6pin firewire ports, digital i/o), its actually a much better deal.
