MacBook Pro + Existing VSTs
Will VST instruments like the Korg Legacy and Arturia MiniMoog need to be rewritten to work on the intel Macs like Ableton does, or are these two different things?
Sorry if this is an elementary question. Thanks

What..?!!! I am using Intel based iMac for the past four weeks and every single VST and VSTi that I have tried and installed (including Korg Legacy DE) works just fine. Sure that they suffer a little bit performance wise, but not dramaticaly. Can't say that about curent version of Live which loads, but is totaly unusable. Hopefully 5.2 will be released this week...warpus wrote:Not at all. The host application will not recognize them.Groovecake wrote:Dang.
Will they still work only not as well or will they not work at all?
Thanks

Both...Groovecake wrote:Ah. That's good to know. Have you been using them as plugins or as stand alones?
FYI; Cubase SL3 runs OK, Reason 3 - so,so as long as you don't use "combinator" patches. As fo VSTi's - Korg Legacy, Microtonic, Vanguard, Bassline all run OK and iDrum is the first "Universal" plug for Intel Mac {AU only). Good news is that You will propably not even notice performance difference if migrated from let's say iMac G5 2GHz.

You are using them under ROSETTA .
You seem to have been misinformed of your current situation.
When you get a UNIVERSAL BINARY edition of your HOST (ie:LIVE) it will need to have universal binary conversions of all your VST/VSTi to run in that host.
As it currently stands your are using a non universal binary version of Live with NON universal binary versions of your VST & VSTi.
I guarantee you when you use a Universal Binary Host all the VST&VSTi and AudiUnits need to be of universal binary conversion too run effectively.
So yes when you have a proper Univeral Binary compatible host you need to have your AU's / VST & VSTi converted to universal binary also.
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....

Hey FaX-01,
You have mentioned:
"So yes when you have a proper Univeral Binary compatible host you need to have your AU's / VST & VSTi converted to universal binary also."
So if that's the case, shouldn't opposite be true i.e you can't use "Universal" VSTi's with Host running under Rosetta? The reason I'm asking is that the only Universal VSTi I know of at this stage - Crystal, performs flawlesly in Cubase running under Rosetta...
