Not a big fan of whining singers, and overt tugs at heartstrings etc.

Any (C)rap, hip-hop artist (nelly, 50c, p diddy, etc..) in the past 15+ yrs I'd say.

Now Grand Master Flash was doing this stuff slicker than them back in the day, not that I am a (C)rap, hip-hop fan at all. Listened to it with some brothers while in the service. Me, METAL, underground, not the crap commercial junk that gets shoved down our throats.

And it's just my opinion. And you know what they are like. ;-)

Clearly using your own personal bias as a system for rating artists isn't fool proof since there are apparently plenty of musicians that you do not like that a lot of others do. Just because you feel that DJs are talentless hacks or whatever doesn't mean that other people cannot understand what they do and appreciate their work and skills for what it is worth.

Well put!

Haters and followers just make a person work harder at what they do

well I think its certain that these people had soul, and were truer to themselves and they're craft than say, kylie minogue who is just a tramp in my opinion, and is just tits and ass and has absolutely -NO- musical integrity. she is an employee, her 'musical' career works on the same principles as advertising. sex friends success, the three things most used in her videos and in advertising. Kylie's not the only one, there's a whole industry based on these principles and its morons and impressionable teenage girls and boys who keep these con-artists on the air.

heres the definition of 'artist'

art·ist P Pronunciation Key (ärtst)

One who is adept at an activity, especially one involving trickery or deceit: a con artist.

artist

n : a person whose creative work shows sensitivity and imagination

so to clarify, when an artist carrys a whole genre on his back and then blows his head off, he cant be over-rated. if you have the audacity, the sheer gaul, to suggest kurt cobain is an over-rated artist....well then, lets see you either [a] become a huge global success , or blow your head off, over dose, die on stage etc etc. because regardless of the success, the cash, even the tunes...if you live and die by the sword you deserve respect. ....feel free to hate on the suits and the companies who cash in on it afterwards, but the artist deserves a nod. well, jim and kurt do anyways. their life and death certainly reflected their art - they were true and honest in that respect and in light of todays world, that cant be rated enough

No DJs please, they are over-rated by definition

Nirvana
Daft Punk
Jim Morrisson
The Clash
the next big thing if it's not me
I'm guessing you aren't old enough to have seen the Clash. If you were around in the late '70's-early 80's, and had any musical taste, you would know better. I was a DJ/musician then, saw hundreds of bands including U2 and the Police in small clubs, Stones, Who, etc... They all paled in comparison to any Clash show I attended, especially in NY and Boston. The Clash embodied the elements of passion, politics and energy that all great Rock and Roll have.

...I agree about Jim Morrison

I think that daftpunk is overrated, cuz with their first album they just cloned a lot of old chicago tracks and got credits for it.

I think that all "artists" are overated who clone music just for the money.
People wake up.

Huh?! :?

I vote for anyone who graduated from American Idol and released their own album as overrated. The vocal acrobatics and belting it out broadway showmanship seems a little out of character and not so taseful for me. Some of them sold way too many records for their own good.

If the music was sold for what it actually is and didn't ride on the show's coattails and hype of the program I doubt many people would genuinely be interested in the music itself.
