actually your point was that my point was invalid because an artists actions are not the artist's art. An obvious observation that no one needs highlighted....

And so once again, I point out this thread is about the artists, not just the art as you again insist. if I think lars is an ass for what he did (and we dont have to get into that debate, thats not the point here) , than that is a completely valid point given the thread topic. Anyways with that being said, not rocking out to ride the lightning has got nothing to do with me getting older, its got to do with the band revealing themselves as money inspired whores liars and rat bastards. Have you heard of Sizzla ? He's a reggae vocalist and a -seriously- talented wordsmith. Unfortunately he's another money whore, and he panders to various contradictary sub-genres of reggae. For example he writes powerful conscious lyrics for roots style reggae renouncing violence segregation, prejudice...you name it. However, theres a huge mysogynist market in reggae, and these 'rude boys' like lyrics pertaining to murdering homosexuals and their right to fuck any woman they want etc, and sizzla has written some of the most offensive shit I've ever heard or read - directly saying 'kill homosexuals'...not some metaphor. But the common denominator is music, and the music sounds good. the flow and the structure of his words are truely genius, the art is gold you could say. But Sizzla, the artist, is a con-man selling cds to the righteous AND the repugnant......I can seperate the art and the artist, Its not difficult, but this god damn thread is about the artists....so please desist from your admitted quirk of being a condesending asshole and let me post in peace ? which does not mean you cant challenge my logic or reasoning, just save your rolling eyes and incorrect sweeping statements for yourself.

Yes Lenny Kravitz gets the fucking gold medal, and maybe ELTON JOHN.

How about MADONNA, since she doesn't even write or produce her own "songs".....

GREEN DAY, STROKES, man just about everybody who's top 100 these days, 50 cent, ying yang twins, man i'm just gonna stop cuz MOST music that has come out since 1960 has been garbage, about 5% is worth listening to and 0.001% GREAT.

SADLY, having been into "hip-hop" since 83 when Breakin' and good Friday and Saturday night radio shows on WAMO FM turned me on as a kid, just about all of the hip-hop I hear blows donkey balls. It's up there with country music for me now. Like if someone says, "they're not like most other country bands, they're really good", I'm like " NAAAHHHHHHHH....."

Same with hip-hop. It had it's day in the 80's, a resuscitation in the early-mid 90's after a lot of garbage 88-91......but died for me by 96 (give or take a few very excellent demos by underground producers/mc's in Boston New york, Pittsburgh.....) I haven't heard any "hip-hop" i truly like or even felt for YEARS.
R.I.P. hip-hop. how many "fruity loops and a blunt productions" platinum singles are we going to have to endure???

My music sucks just as bad if not worse. Thank god I've realized it and have since given up trying to make any more......rather than carry on with it like so many other blind (and deaf) morons who go around promoting their garbage as if it were actually listenable....

right on the money! I got into hip-hop in '90-'91, and I just got to experience LONS, EPMD, das EFX, DEL tha funkee homosapien, Wu-tangs 36 chambers and so on... then it was downhill...

wow, i didn't realize those were words.

but even with that said, i still don't get it, even though, considering my musical taste, i probably should be there biggest fan, i just can't force myself to like their music.

I think you are being a little uptight about the music they put out......our traditional understanding of music and its theory is based, I believe, on what resonates positively with us. Certain notes provoke reactions in us, positive ones, and so through time and evolution we have documented these notes and created scales with which we most commonly compose music.....boards of canada, percussion aside, dance between the lines...their interest is in the anti-scale, the anti-note....its merely observational or documentary, an exploration of the shadows and the nether-sounds ..... I understand they were film makers before musicians and composed to create soundtracks to their films. This could be why they are inclined to lean towards dissonance instead of harmony, it could be conducive to their film? .... At any rate, someone needs to pursue and put out the sounds they do, and I'm glad they are amongst the ones doing such a thing.

It makes harmony sound sweeter, and takes you to places you are not usually taken...

while i understand and completely respect everything your saying, it still doesn't change that fact that i get physically irratated when trying to listen my way through their albums. i can understand that this approach to music making will work for many people, which is obvious from there huge following. i have heard a few tracks that were listenable, but certainly nothing i would consider special or particulary amazing in any aspect. like everyone has pointed out thus far in this subject, everything anyone is saying is opinion and completly personal so maybe this should be 'bands i don't understand why other people like' and not 'overrated'.

heh, well now I'm satisfied you understand the concept and just dont dig it, which is fine.... I hope you understand why i said and assumed what I did, and dont consider me a prick for my condesent. I rarely listen to a boards of canada album all the way through, but I do like the textures they create...its a different kind of appreciation not at all a 'musical' one....but in theme with the things I've said previously, if boards of canada started suing their fans for even more financial gain I'd damn them to hell.
