nah man, thats the way i roll!!!

seriously, it's all personal preference. i got a dual 2.5 G5 and an AMD 2.8 [which is on the fritz right now, hehee] and for the most part they have both preformed great. i do a lot of audio, broadcast design, video and motion graphics work and both have handle more than their share of serious work. i'm really excited to see what happenes with the MacProBook in the next few months. i would buy one now if i didn't have to save money to go overseas. although it would be so nice to get it before i do leave, so i could play live...

At this point, who will bother arguing? Live runs peachy on a intel mac with xp :D

I'll just be humble and wait till i get to gloat with a macbook pro merom........ running Leopard while pc users are still dreaming of vista....
I don't care if pc's still perform better after that.... it's all the power i need.
I mean... you can power a whole nuclear facility with one of those things
why do mac people think pc users are always hungry for upgrades bla bla?

we use our computers and get the job done and if there's a decent upgrade then we get it, if not we wait till we buy our next pc because it comes with it anyway and we use it... no big deal .. nothing to gloat about...

macs and pc's will now be pretty much the same speed.. unless the OS makes a difference..

there's no difference between the two platforms now.. nothing .. just aesthetic stuff...

soo... the computing world will continue to use the operating system that most of their application needs are met under and we dont jump up and down about it and we dont moan about it either...
Yeah...
The point i was making though... We're about a few months away from having all the power we'll need for a long time. Sure you can get the job done with a 800mhz computer or less.
But the power we're finally seeing for both mac and pc user is something that should hold us over for a long while. We'll get double power thanks to live 6....
It's more then enough for what i'm doing. I sure there will still be some people who complain that live crackles after they added their 40th reverb on each instance of every single NI vsti....

I'm looking forward to some new kind of argument (remember the python sketch?)
Live's instruments and effects Vs. the other stuff out there....
We'll need more instruments and effects for that though.
And more midi plugins. Like a scaled midi delay
I think......

The best thing to come out of a thread like this.....

is the ability for a quote to take up almost an entire page.

Lets go for it guys!!!!

I'll take your quote, and raise it by 8 lines.

I just can't wait til Merom/Conroe come out in July. Then we'll have superfast quad core Intel PowerMacs. Holy shit those things will scream. Goodbye CPU limitations! And the Meroms should hopefully bring another performance bump/battery life bump to all the core duo lappies out there at the moment, MBP and PCs included.

BTW PCs are for stupid people! :p

PS BTW I own one, so get over it.

PPS I've been so drained by stupid threads over PC vs Mac that I thought I'd stop giving a flying f#%k! Thus my lax attitude.

I know what you mean, as a mac guy I keep configuring a Dell of almost similar specs to the macbook ( worse RAM, no backlit keyboard, no optical out, no goof isight camera....), with a 2Ghz dual for around $1500. Now granted it's probably a bit slower than the dual 2Ghz macbook, but is it $1000 slower?
I'm hoping some PC dude buys one, and does the Live 5 Performance test.... if it's even close to the macbook scores, then it would make a great PC for live use to run alongside a merom macbook when they come out, and to smoke my powerbook in the meantime.

You know,

they should make PC's for girly girls.

color coordinated of course, to this seasons latest fashions.
with like, scented flowers built into the case, and like flip out make-up mirrors and shit.
maybe a mobile phone built into the side so they can talk on it whilst chatting on IRC and posting on multiple forums all at the same time.
theres a whole untapped market there.

Yep, that Dell 6400 sure is cheap. The differences are: the Dell has integrated Intel graphics, and the Dell weighs 2.8kg vs 2.5kg and is obviously oogly compared to a MBP. And the Dell defaults to having a smaller res screen. Then again on stage you might want low-res so you can see it easier. YMMV.

If you JUST need raw CPU horsepower, the 6400 would seem like a good stop-gap solution before getting a Merom MBP in July (or maybe August :)). That's if you don't need a computer that runs OSX! :)

Even if I did get a PC laptop, I wouldn't be selling my powerbook anytime soon, I tend to write songs in Live Set form, and need the different MIDI and plug in configurations for different songs.... and two laptops seems the way to go to solve that. Besides it frees up the possibility to do some video DJing as well.....

You can add the graphics card online before you buy.

OK affer configuring it to closely match the macbook, coming in at $1777 US, yet I can't help but wonder if the slower RAM (533 as opposed to 667 ) keeps the performance at dual 1.87 level? If it does, then it's not that much better than a dual 1.87.

talking about the macbook pro, i would really buy one now,
but i've read a lot of people still receiving machines with the whine noise inside.
Check this site:

it's unofficial, but apple needs to fix this, expecially because the macbook pro isn't so cheap.

i dont know if apple will actually officially acknowledge this problem. it is a very low sound, can only be heard in a quiet library.

the screen whine is being covered by apple already.
