something about the keyboards just strikes me as uncomfortable.

actually, taking a closer look at the specs, I think the mic is included as part of the iSight. That's why it's not listed in the audio specs.

its not. Its the LED light to let you know that the camera is on (or off if it isn't lit).

Drive speed improves data transfer speed. For Live (and audio work in general) this is good because audio is streamed directly from HD (unless you stream it from RAM, which is faster, but way more scarce)

Right on rbmon. Could I still get by ok w/ the 5400 RPM, or should I just make sure to get the 7200? Much appreciated.

Personally I wouldn't go below 7200, but you can always get an IDE drive and an IDE to FW/USB 2.0 adapter

Early reports indicate that the hard drive in the new MacBook can be easily upgraded by end users. As easy as upgrading RAM.

The way shared memory works, it is best to buy exact pairs of memory. 2 Identical chips. I did a bit of research on this for the MacMini (which has shared mem) and it is a HUGE help for video to have identical chips.

I doubt this would be covered under warranty though. Adding RAM is quick, simple and all you have to do is choose the correct memory.

With a laptop hard drive, especialiy in a MacBook (Pro) adding a drive isn't as simple due to heat constraints. Seagate do a 160GB 700rpm laptop drive, but that doesn't mean it'll work in any laptop. It may overheat in a MacBook or other type of laptop.

I'd stick with external drives when it comes to expanding drive space.

it is, it's in a panel under the ram under the battery,
you can totally change it yourself on the macbook..

unlike the pro.

BTW, External drives (Including FW400) have poor performance in Live. BAD Bottleneck. OK For the Studio, not good for live use.

Unless you load clips into RAM...

i have the pro 2.0ghz
and windows runs much much better on it then on my
P4 2.8 pimped out box.

the dual core is the bomb.

if you don't need to do anything with 3d graphics, then the macbook
is power enough for you. the advantage of the pro line is the ATI x1600
graphic chip with it's own memory (128 or 256megs depending on your
choice)
