The new sampler supports drag and drop & apparently 'integrates seamlessly' into live (or words to that effect).
If that's so wouldn't it be logical to expect to be able to warp a section of audio, then drag n drop it into the new sampler (with it's 'seamless' integration) & have it automatically recognize the warp points & automatically keymap the individual regions for you?
It seems like a no-brainer to me & would definately add to the appeal of the sampler.
I might be wrong - but most (if not all) commercially released samplers have a similar feature, EXT's included sampler performs a similar task.
Surely Live the audio looping tool/host's sampler should include a similar feature?
Her's hoping :D

100% agreed. i think in all the complimenting/complaining people often miss the big picture: live was developed from the ground up as an environment to which features could be added in ways that make complete logical sense and don't overwhelm the workflow of the user. i think this is exemplified by the fact that live started its life as a live performance tool, and has morphed into a full blown daw with no growing pains in regards to interface and workflow.
even if something is an 'essential' feature to some, it ain't going in live until it can be integrated in a logical manner. so i'm guessing that slicing is somewhere in the development process...and in the end will pop up integrated into clip view or the sampler, or maybe even as another instrument, a la sampler and operator. or hell, maybe ableton have thought beyond all of this and have come up with a concept that makes slicing a thing of the past. i wouldn't put it past them.

word. that's the perfect implementation of what i mentioned a few posts up. so can an alpha tester confirm this? what happens when you drag a warped clip to the sampler? does it peep the asd file and chop it up, or just look at it as one piece? it would seem like a small leap for the sampler to recognize the warp markers and cut it up appropriately.

it's kind of a surreal experience for me to be on this forum of all forums trying to validate " audio slicing and mapping" as a viable feature, if the props took out the dr rex from reason tomorrow people would be jumping out of planes.
I love you folks never the less though, now it's time for pancakes

...no offence, but I can see why Ableton doesn't include a dedicated slicer, as there are already a lot of them out there which can be loaded as a VSTi and also because of the fact that you can do all the tasks with Live already. It's basically about cutting a loop into pieces, rearrange it and applying different effects and modulations to the single hits, isn't it. I have Kontakt, Intakt and Liveslice myself and I'm an avid user of Recycle for almost six years. But you can go pretty deep with Live - modulate each parameter of each of Impulse's slot in the envelope section, set up audio tracks for each of these slots and apply more effects, add sends, set up group channels etc. etc. I admit, at some point it could be difficult to maintain an overview, but it's the most sophisticated application I've come across (although Rex-support would be nice as well as an improvement of setting up warp-markers and envelopes with slopepoints) and it doesn't necessarily need a slicer. I think, things like deep freeze, the easy replacement of frozen clips with the rendered audio, the enhancement of the database features, automapping and the new racks will improve our workflow more than we'd imagine right now. Perhaps the Abletons have a slicer on their list, but these features seemed more important to them (and they will earn a sh*tload of money from film composers because of the video support - isn't Ableton a part of Avid?). Right now I'm very excited about the new features and the new Sampler - it could become a serious competitor to Kore and Kontakt. Enjoy the pancakes :D ...

the three features I hoped to see most in live six were an integrated slicer, audio overdubbing for loops, and automation in clips. i guess i will just have to use liveslice, zone mobius, and integrated midi learn, unless these features are unannounced (which I doubt they are).

that said, i am still very very excited for live six and happy with the new features they *have* implemented. i am dissapointed too, though, but i'll get over it :)

i have to chime in here and also say that not implementing a dedicated slicer at this point is yet again really a disappointing. this feature has been talked about and suggested since Live 2 by a multitude of different users. i know this because i've been using Live since 2 and following/lurking the forums since that time. hello...anyone listening...

now there are tons of work arounds and i have slicing down to a science with a few quick commands. there's also using a handful or slicers that are available via VST and AU...and so whatever. but i was really hoping they'd finally implement a rather obvious feature in this version. hrmmm

now, who knows this Sampler could be quite nice and that remains to be seen.

staying tuned.....apple + e :?

pancakes were good......werd :)

loachm i see your point, but 'the' point of a slicer which you should know because it turns out that you use all of those other slicers too is the 'flow', it's not about can Live make a slice in an audio file, it's about the flow of it, which is why you use kontakt, and liveslice as well as being an avid user of recycle yourself.
i just want what you get out of those apps in live itself, where i feel it rightfully should have been since version 1, it was born as a loop tool correct?, ... well a loop tool should slice

and like you i'm happy about the new features too, shit now i can sample like crazy from all the video clips i have much easier with the new video features and thats just scratching the surface, , if the upgrade was available right now i'd have already purchased it.
Mac, Mpc, and a Microphone

Thanks for the Slicer Abe.

... I agree it's about having a certain feeling when using an application - but nevertheless I just wanted to show you some options. And I'm sure we both agree that it's a shame that a loop tool isn't capable of importing such formats like ACIDiced Wav-Files, Rex-Files and Apple-Loops. It's strange that recently the big sample developers offer multi-format libraries with all of these formats, but there is hardly a library that offers warped loops...

The apparent lack of an autoslicng feature in the ostensibly 'fully integrated' sampler, given Abletons warping technology (which effectively 'slices' audio, just without keymapping it) is something I just can't understand.
I'll still grab the upgrade - just seems strange that one would have to buy a (cheaper & able to be used cross hosts) third party vsti for autoslicing, even another sampler - rather than live's own integrated 'native' sampler.
Seriously - what's that all about?

i know about every which way to slice shit up in Live and it makes no difference.

if you've never used fl slicer
phatmatick
shortcircuit
guru
intakt
haxor
an mpc
or any other sample slicer then you just don't know.
this is a feature that should be in any sampler from day one, you move quick much quicker than slicing shit up in the arrange view, you slice automaticly by transients, silence, or other parameters.

i want the ability to slice shit up fast, automaticly and manualy, i want to edit the slices individualy , i want to arrange them ... not by dragging around
unless i choose but quickly, I want the function of AmGs One but i want it in live.
i don't want to use a third party slicer, i have them all. I want it in Live and it is such an easy thing to implement in an app that of all the apps on earth should of had in in the first place.
Live is my canvas dream as a samplist, and any die hard samplist needs a fuckin slicer.
point blank.

I've decided to invest in LiveSlice and forget about Live 6 for now..

I do like the racks though, looking forward to using them in Live 7 in a year or two..

Yeah, the more I consider how FL has approached the upgrade path vs. Live the less impressed with Live I get. I may well spring for it in a moment of consumer wad-blowing, but I am more than likely going to start focussing on integrating FL more as a vst and eyeballing an academic version of Reaktor.

$420 for a sampler, samples, and minor structural differences is quite a pisser of an upgrade.
I was using fl before i bought live and i still use it now whiel trying to intergrate the two together as best i can. I honestly believe the step sequencer, piano roll, and fruity slicer combined within flstudio, are the greatest things that have ever happened to sampling. I feel like i can change an individual slice (like a snare) in everyway i could possibly think of doing it. Only problem with flstudio is its not a good performance tool at all...and thats where live comes in!!!

ALSO Mr SCIENTIST, you said you use an mpc1000?? i have used my friends mpc2000xl and have become quite proficient on it. I am considering purchasing a 1000, is it comprable to the 2000xl?? I have heard rumors of bugs and problems with the os. Anyway id like to here what you think about it?!

If i was rich i would force ABLETON to create a slicer EXACTLY MIRRORING the one in flstudio, as well as its step sequencer and piano roll!!!!
PEACE!
