Live 6 Changes for DJ's
I don't get you're mind set, surely this is a super important feature for the many users doing Scoring and Soundtracks to Picture. More users = More cash money for developmentKU wrote:the guy has a valid complaint. The new release has some great features but when I see something like Video Implementation before extremely important functional performance features - well that is lame.

let me be clear that I am not a DJ, and that I relish in the complexity and flexibility of live as a musical instrument.
I don't even play tracks in my music, I just use vsti and live looping. I do have experience beat juggling, mixing, scratching, etc. Like many users I would like to have the vast possiblities of live converge with the tempo control of a technics. A turntable has a set pitch range with reset as well as brake/start speed controls - you can also nudge a turntables speed.
And yes, video support is not a feature I am exited to see in Live. There are too many important MUSICAL features which can be improved to waste time on video. Yes many, many threads and people want video support - but I don't really care about them making soundtracks to animal planet or whatever they do! Live is a musical instrument, and should not be catered to people who want to make videos. If there are zero bugs and it does not cause even the slightest performance decrease to have such feature then I will just forget it ever happened.
I would trade video support, for even a simple Groove Quantize template feature, or SOS looping

Yeah, well, these people, who are just as much Live users as you are, don't need sound on sound, do they?KU wrote:And yes, video support is not a feature I am exited to see in Live. Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

With regard to video versus DJing features, I think what was originally attractive about Live was that it did things no other application could. But now I feel there's too much duplication of functionality that already exists in other products.
If you want to score video, you were already able to rewire Live into a sequencer that supported video and do it that way. Sure, adding video to Live simplifies the workflow, but it doesn't seem to enable you to do much that you couldn't already.
On the other hand there is no tool, or combination of tools (that I am aware of) that can do the kinds of things that DJs and other live performers are asking for.
Now if Ableton had added functionality to allow us to warp video clips in the same way as audio clips, and play them back to a second screen, then I'd be much more keen. I doubt if I'd use such functionality, but I could see it being a natural progression of Live.

I suggested this in a thread and was shot down cos it would be 'too demanding' by the people asking for video support for scoring etc..robbmasters wrote:Now if Ableton had added functionality to allow us to warp video clips in the same way as audio clips, and play them back to a second screen, then I'd be much more keen. I have to say I'm not unhappy about any of the features in L6; there is stuff I'd like to add and stuff I'd like to do differently, but nothing I'd want taken out.

re
they should have added something like how the plater works on a cdj which you could assign to a rotary encoder (new A&H 3Ds jog wheel would be perfect).
I play out live most weekends with a friend and we regularly switch between live and cdjs. we mix well with the cdjs but it would save me and the dj a lot of time trying to punch in exactly on cue if i could just twist an encoder to sync it up.
nothing really in the upgrade that makes want to rush out and upgrade.
P.S. I just register a copy of 5. 2 weeks ago, you think i could/should get the upgrade free?
