Live 6 Changes for DJ's
Live 6 Changes for DJ's
So, Live 6 will come out and we know the features already but what is in it for us DJ's?
I do not see a feature that can really improve classical DJing. This is is not a criticism since every new release of Live is good for itself, but heck, what is so difficult to implement a NUDGE feature? Damn, its being asked for since 2-3 releases...

not wanting to burn anbody here, but live isnt a djing program. i dj with it but bought it for production. the djing aspect is a by product of the technology. that means you have to think about how you approach it in a different way. its a live performance tool. if you want classic style djing you should be looking at traktor or final scratch even.
for me the new features will push the way a work with it even further forward. i wouldnt dream of going back to decks, vinyl or even cds. i not trying to alienate anybody but live should never [and hopefully will never] be a dj orientated program. it allows far more freedom. yes lots of people use it for djing - me included. thats an added bonus as far as im concerned. if you buy live just to dj i think you have wasted your money to an extent as you have a massively powerful production tool widely going unused. you should really be looking for something else.
theres been a couple of threads about this issue and i cant really see whats got everyone so beefed.

There are a few postings here on how to beatmatch with other DJ's on decks. I do this all the time and it did throw me off for a while too. The best way I find is to map the tempo of Live to a slider on your MIDI controller. Set the lower limit say to 124 and the higher limit to 132 (you will need to adjust this if you will ever have your BPM outside of this range). If you can close your limits to a smaller gap then all the better. What this does is when you move the slider the tempo increments in finer jumps .02 in my case with my levels. This allows you to beatmatch perfectly to other Dj's.
Hope this helps!

I really dont see the use of a nudge function (other than quantized and used creatively.)
It took me six months to re-learn how to mix without it, but now i can play over top of another DJ for hours just using fine adjustment of the tempo slider.
nuperspective is right... this is not a dj program.
by adapting to the technology we are given, and being inventive with that, rather than demanding an exact digital copy of the turntable experience, we can, and are already, redefining how djs work.

MBP 2.4 & a shit load of Faderfoxes!
yes, you're not setting the global quantize to None - if you do that you will be moving backwards and forwards by very small increments.JohnDP wrote:thanks, I tried but when I push the nudge function the track just jumps back a second or so instead of slowing down like a turntable.
Am I doing something wrong?
I would tend to agree - the mere fact that it nudges in Global Q increments does seem to point towards the creative use...RePeter wrote:I really dont see the use of a nudge function (other than quantized and used creatively.)
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.
the guy has a valid complaint. The new release has some great features but when I see something like Video Implementation before extremely important functional performance features - well that is lame.
To me, Live is a sequencing performance instrument. I don't want the focus of the updates to be about DAW features, it should be about how it is used as an instrument. The board has been vocal about such features like Sound-On-Sound looping, global nudge, turntable emulation. It's not about turning Live into a simple DJ program, but these features expand the performance options. I don't even DJ with live, but I would like the global tempo section to be able to mimic a technics 1200 because that would be superior!

Set all your clips to repitch and map the tempo to a slider on your controller!KU wrote:but I would like the global tempo section to be able to mimic a technics 1200 because that would be superior!
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
