Recording Vinyl - Ableton Vs Sound Forge
I think the topic should say it all - what is the better program to use? I normally use Sound Forge through habit more than anything, but now I am using Ableton more and more, I figured I'd see what everyone's opinion is of just using that to record with...

Doesn't really matter - use what you are most comfortable with. Recording a single audio source only dumps the bits coming from your audio interface to a file on your hard drive. You could use Window´s built in audio recorder and get the exact same result.
However, try to record in 24 bits if you have the disk space to spare.

for ripping vinyl I go straight into Live, but record into a mini VST called Tapeit2.
works great. i dont believe people that say they can tell the difference recoding into soundforge,
i dont think there's any difference in sound quality, and the recording process is much faster and convienient into Live.

I vote Soundforge for more precise metering of the incoming level and easier editing, normalizing, and even using the noise removal tool for clicks & pops.

im getting better metering results with the Inspector XL using Katz K-14 system right in Live.
true -- trimming the beginnings and ends I still have to do in Soundforge, but thats all. Live 6 features trimming built right in, so then i wont use SF at all
