And what's the electronic music scene like?
Didn't I mention?

"Ár" = price (monthly, usually without expenses)

The electronic scene?
I don't know much, since I'm in the house scene, but I have a guest electro DJ on my radio show, so I'll ask him...

course that's not based on real experience of living there so I might be way off!
It happens, believe me. :) When I first moved here, it was like a techno all-you-can-eat buffet. Literally, every night of the week, there is something going on somewhere... and every hour of every weekend, too.

However, there comes a point where you really get "clubbed out". I have passed up seeing DJ's that I would have driven 3+ hours to go hear, because I know I'll be able to see them again in another month or two if I feel like. Plus, it also gets a bit tiring dealing with the "living dead" (aka, clubbers after 24 straight hours of partying), smokey dark rooms, crowds, drink prices, etc.

Don't get me wrong; I love the scene here, and I still go out once in awhile if I'm in the mood. The beach clubs here are awesome, and I would have to say that I prefer going to them much more than the "traditional" club-type venues because of the atmosphere.

The bottom line is, there's much more to enjoy in berlin than just techno. :)

Sorry, me being unobservant. Wow! That is cheap. That price would get you a week in london, uk.

By electronic I mean all kinds of dance music - house, techno, electronica... whatever really. I'm interested in it all.

do you plan to work or is it a purely recreational year ?

I'd say Belgrade personally, I'm well into Serbia. Budapest is pretty awesome too though.

Damn, they are all actually great cities in their own right....

hmmm - very helpful post no?

I feel like you at the moment and want to get out of the UK.
This country is overrun by Chavs and Fat birds and I'm sick of paying ridiculous amounts of money for rubbish. Whenever I go to these places you mention, it always seems like people enjoy a better standard living for a fraction of the cost.

The problem for me is work as I am working in a very specialised industry so would need to quit my job..... guess i am a little scraed by that...

Don't you just know it!

Planning on working. I think just living in a completely new place (even whilst working a day job) will be so stimulating creatively.

I'm not too worried about taking time out of a "sensible career" either as taking on new challenges/learning a new language always looks great on your CV. If I could possibly find a job with greater synergy with my musical endevours then that's be even better, perfect in fact!

You can have a beach without an ocean. :)

oststrand
strandbar
badeschiff

These are the first ones that come to mind, but I can think of a few others also along the spree.

excactly, i am from berlin and moved away in 98, because the "scene" was more then just dead, dead boring! however it changed to the better over the last few years, i started to enjoy visiting it again, because of it's club culture.

also berlin has much more to offer than that. at least in nowadays. it started to be more cosmopolitan and the damn germans seemed to have woken up from their sleep.

now i can even consider moving back home, but it was for a long time rather awfull.

barcelona is agreat place and has a strong very diverse electronic scene, and spanish people have at least fire in their blood and soul in their hearts opposed to the average german, berlin being ok-ish, but the rest of the countrys people. few!?!?! viva la fiesta!! but maybee i have lived for to long away in different countries, so that only my german passport is left in me?

if you have a choice and speak spanish, i'd say barcelona.

and if you are originally from a "western" country don't move east, it will do earlier or later your head in, believe me! at least i am there after the first excitement and 3 years being here.

yo dude, have you ever been in belgrade?!
not that it's superb city, but compared to budapest, belgrade is las vegas.

i've been in all cities you've mentioned and i'd vote this way:

- berlin (cheap, hipe, great music scene, nice chicks)
- barcelona (great architecture, great festival [sonar], a downside for me is that there's too many tourists up there)
- belgrade (cheap, very live, great chicks, great festivals [check out my sig  ]...)
- budapest (would never live there. the whole city smells on paprikash [no offence nagye])
