Live 6 video - who asked for it?
Live 6 video - who asked for it?
Personally I am disappointed to see Ableton starting to develop video funtionality.
It is not on the roadmap that I hoped Ableton would stick to.
I wanted to see them dedicated to only developing more top-notch audio gizmos for Live (for my money).
... Or at least leave the video functionality as an optional extra purchase (like operator and sampler) rather than a mandatory addition that I don't need or want.

Dell Precision M60, Quattro USB, UC33e, Korg Triton Extreme, Motif Rack. SX, Reaktor, Absynth, SoundForge, Acid, Bidule.
I wonder was it 0.01% of users requesting it, but the other 99.99% didn't bother to make any requests
kind of like GWB getting elected the first time.
Anyway, no major complaint from me, I was just curious as to whether there are many people fervently interested in it. I do think it should be optional though (and sampler built-in)

i kind of feel the same, i cant help thinking that it might bloat out the program, make it more cpu hungry. However, i am looking forward to having a play with it, ive done music to video a few times in pro tools & its such fun.
I guess as long as it isnt too much an extra load on live then its a cool extra feature.

I didn't ask for it and probably will never use it...
BUT I'm glad they added it, because I think there are lots of users who WILL find it useful (even if I'm not one of them) and it helps take Live forward as a program and advance Ableton's conquest of the music world

It was an extremly often requested feature.
It does not eat ANY additional CPU if not in use
It was easy to implement
It does not need one single new interface element
Its developement had the great side effect of allowing any audio clip to act as master. ( which was also often requested btw!)
There are certainly things we still need to improve in Live but complaining about this special feature does not make so much sense to me....

For me it is good news. I at the moment I wont use it that much but down the road I hope that I will. I know that by the end of the summer I will be working on a project that will require me to sync to video so it is a very welcome addition. Also all other major sequencers have this feature it is just a logical addition.
One day you will be with someone and they will say "I've made a short film, right now I'm using library music, it sounds terrible, if only I could find someone to do music for it"
On that day, when you say "hey, I'll do some music for your film ifyou like" , on that very day, you will think about how you said that video was stupid and you will never use it.
If you don't need to work with video now, fine, like Robert said - it's hardly affecting you.
If you do need to use video now, you will be glad, you can work with video.
My car has a cigarette lighter, I don't smoke - but I won't try and tear it out of the dash. One day it may come in useful.

Robert makes an excellent point, as does Angstrom.
However, having played with video a little in the Live 6 beta, my only comment (not intended as a criticism, please!) would be that for scoring video I think my other software offers more... video support in Live 6 seems slightly basic at this stage. In Sonar or Adobe Audition I can run video as a thumbnail view and score my music easily linking it to hit points and specific frames.
Also they both offer 5:1 surround sound options which are pretty important for movie scoring, no?
I suspect people using Live for movie scoring will ask for more features in Live 7
