A question to those of you who own NI's Battery sample libraries (like this or this): Are there .wav or .aiff files of the samples on the DVDs as well?
Because I'd really like to build a Battery-like drum machine from Impulses and Simplers and use Battery kits in it, but I don't know if it uses a proprietary file format.

This should answer your question. It's info from on of your links.Zerobae wrote:A question to those of you who own NI's Battery sample libraries (like this or this): Are there .wav or .aiff files of the samples on the DVDs as well?

So yesFeatures
1.1 GB WAV samples
More than 3000 audio files
Up to 16 velocity layers
GM compatible

Cool. Thanks!SonnyBonnier wrote:Every sample is accessible as a wave-file. You can use them in every sampler there is.Zerobae wrote:Yeah, I've read that. But all the .wav samples could still be combined to one big proprietary file that only Battery can read.
Sorry for my English, but you know what I mean.
I noticed this also in this thread - that's cool, I never realized that!SonnyBonnier wrote:Every sample is accessible as a wave-file. I'm sure the studio drums are kickass...but I wonder if the synthetic drums are practical (like having all the basics like 808's) or just weird "creative" sounds that might not be so easy to use.
Also, with all the velocity-layered samples, how do you figure out which to actually use in Impulse? (I guess with Live 6 we can use all the different layers?)

yes but the difference is that 1 battery instance can have 9 x 9 or even more multilayered cells --> this way all drum sounds can be put in one battery instance compared to multiple impulse instances divided over multiple tracks (the rack system of live6 will solve this problem to a certain degree but it still won't be as handy as having all your cells on 1 screen)If I'm understanding this correctly (maybe not) you can do this in impulse too -- cf. section 12.7.5 of the manual for how (impulse offers each sample slot as a separate output, and won't mix a slot internally if some other track is receiving it.)
also battery allows multiple cells to be sent to the same output for creating busses (ex all hihats and cymbals to 1 output , all snares to the next and al kicks to the third). If you do this with impulses you'll need a lot of extra tracks for the individual cells of the impulse which then will have to be sent to the buss tracks
Yes this would be nice in impulse, to have several hats to the one audio trackmr-e wrote:yes but the difference is that 1 battery instance can have 9 x 9 or even more multilayered cells --> this way all drum sounds can be put in one battery instance compared to multiple impulse instances divided over multiple tracks (the rack system of live6 will solve this problem to a certain degree but it still won't be as handy as having all your cells on 1 screen)If I'm understanding this correctly (maybe not) you can do this in impulse too -- cf. section 12.7.5 of the manual for how (impulse offers each sample slot as a separate output, and won't mix a slot internally if some other track is receiving it.)
