battery vs impulse
battery vs impulse
Hi, i have heard a lot about how good NIs battery is, but is it really necessary if you have Impulse? What does battery do better than impulse, and does it do anything that impulse can't?

Re: battery vs impulse
Battery does a lot that Impulse doesn't. Question is if it's anything you need. As far as I remember there's a demo of Battery available at NI. Try it!eturnol wrote:Hi, i have heard a lot about how good NIs battery is, but is it really necessary if you have Impulse? They're both great
a lot of people have touched on the subject
do a search like this battery + impulse + features
when I put that search in I got a thread with your exact same title
Impulse vs Battery <--click on it
may or may not have the answers you're looking for but you never know - check it out
I prefer SIMPLER over both fyi
peace

Something bout the sound of Battery I've always liked. I like to use both Impulse and Battery together on different tracks sometimes. Hopefully this isn't too inappropriate but I've a copy of Battery2 for sale...pm if interested.
Adonis, can you post a little on how you use simpler for beats when you get a chance?

I use impulse for drums. from whatever source i choose, mostly my vinyl collection.
I use battery 2, for chopped up vinyl sounds, also for large 808, 909, and other vintage drum machine samples. I made one big kit, with all my favorite vintage drum samples.
I use phatmatik pro alot also. I love the immediacy of it. Chops my vinyl sam[ples up automatically.
that is it for me. That is all I use, along with live5.
In a couple of months I will start enjoying simpler. not ready for that yet.
anxiously awaiting version 6

Pretty straight forward actually - one drum, one track one instance
For what ever reason I feel like I have much more control, it's more organized and keeps my midi files managable
Battery does have a very unique and cool sound though
but my experience is Simpler keeps it well, er um simple
OH YEAH, and plus when you drag bits and pieces of loops into SIMPLER you don't get that little tail end clip you get in Impulse <-- That's the actual reason i stopped using Impulse

i never got the faulty clip in impulse, but all my sounds were edited in an external editor. (dsp quattro).
sounds like you will like the racks feature in v6
I will give simpler a try

If I'm understanding this correctly (maybe not) you can do this in impulse too -- cf. section 12.7.5 of the manual for how (impulse offers each sample slot as a separate output, and won't mix a slot internally if some other track is receiving it.)mr-e wrote:- it's also handy only having to load 1 instance of battery with all drum sounds and assigning different outputs if you want to add effects in ableton

True. If an audio track recieves audio from one of the impulse slots, this sound is not mixed with the other sounds in the impulse track. So adding effects on individual tracks for different sounds in impulse is just as easy as in Battery.tylenol wrote:If I'm understanding this correctly (maybe not) you can do this in impulse too -- cf. section 12.7.5 of the manual for how (impulse offers each sample slot as a separate output, and won't mix a slot internally if some other track is receiving it.)mr-e wrote:- it's also handy only having to load 1 instance of battery with all drum sounds and assigning different outputs if you want to add effects in ableton
